I've been using FrontPage for a number of years now without any serious problems. However, I recently created a document in Word, which I then opened in F.P. and found that it had completely altered the formatting. Instead of having several A4 size pages with a header on each page, and footnotes on the bottom of each, it is one continuous document, minus the heading, and the footnotes appear on the last page in a continuous column, which is not what I want. I have looked in F.P. Help on how to make page breaks, but there is nothing listed that helps me, which suggests that this might not be possible. I do hope I'm wrong about this. Can anyone help, please? Valerie Lirakis

Extremely long pages - many thousands of lines - can take a very long time to load over a slow connection and if you are using word can sometimes cause a computer to freeze. Another solution is to create your pages and have an arrow or something at the bottom to indicate go to next page. Example: http://www.expression-web-tutorials.com/ew4/ scroll to bottom. What would be the next page in the ebook uses an arrow and next with a link to the next page. pat

Normally you would make a new web page for each "page". IF it is REALLY important that your page have the page breaks like a Word document or PDF there is a way to accomplish it. I don't think it could be done in a WYSIWYG editor and it definitely isn't a "recommended" method of web page creation. BUT, it would work for you. It requires creating each "page" in a table. Using a border to delineate the pages from the background. As a second thought it might be possible using style elements but would probably be even more difficult. -- “Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I’m not sure about the former.” -Albert Einstein _ _... ..._ _ _._ ._ ..... ._.. ... .._

And if you are creating your website in Word and saving it as an HTML page, you are likely to have a humongous amount of additional code that is going to increase the size of your page as well as the possibility of display issues. The default hyperlink color is 'blue', or more precisely - #0000FF, and for completeness a:link - #0000FF //blue a:visited - #800080 //purple a:active - #FF0000 //red You may well ask, why were these colors selected, and the web will provide answers such as:- "Red and green are the colours most affected by colour-vision deficiency. Almost no one has a blue deficiency. Accordingly, nearly everyone can see blue, or, more accurately, almost everyone can distinguish blue as a colour different from others. It was pure good luck that the default colour of hyperlinks is blue with underlining." - Joe Clark, "Building Accessible Websites" http://joeclark.org/book/sashay/serialization/ and "Tim Berners-Lee, the main inventor of the web, is believed to be the man who first made hyperlinks blue. Mosaic, a very early web browser, displayed webpages with a (ugly) gray background and black text. The darkest color available at the time that was not the same as the black text was that blue color. Therefore, to make links stand apart from plain text, but still be readable, the color blue was selected." The Mosaic browser became Netscape and finally morphed into Firefox and/or its cousin SeaMonkey. Most browsers will default to the colors listed above for unstyled hyperlinks, though with CSS the web designers preferences prevail, and hyperlink colors in keeping with the over-all theme of the page are to be expected. I tend to go along with Joe Clark's theory, though the Mosaic reason also has merit. Barry

I'm aware of that, thank you Billie. However, I can also see that Sandra is very new to all of this, as she says, and she may not be able to express exactly what she is trying to do, and it sounds to me like what she is referring to is a WorldConnect tree. If it is only to have the ability to show a contact party and have a heading which indicates that as well as to update the family tree when she wants, that is what WorldConnect does. Sandra, as an example, I am including a link to a WorldConnect tree, which perhaps you can take a look at and let us know if this is the type of page that you were referring to: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=dwilliams-1 Deloris Williams ======================= From: Billie Walsh <bilwalsh@swbell.net> Subject: Re: [FreeHelp] FREEPAGES-HELP Digest, Vol 8, Issue 46 Date: Fri, 03 May 2013 21:27:24 -0500 References: <mailman.313.1367628422.2781.freepages-help@rootsweb.com><C37DE9CE48554940AC9121ED670DBF5E@WilliamsComp> In-Reply-To: <C37DE9CE48554940AC9121ED670DBF5E@WilliamsComp> You can do all that and much more on a regular Freepages family tree. I think that we're missing what Sandra is trying to say here. I believe she is talking about a creating a tree on WorldConnect. On WorldConnect one has the Contact info, or any other type of information you want which you may include in the Header when you upload your GEDCOM. You can also upload that tree any amount of times you may want to, I do so at least every couple of months to allow the new info I've been working on to be included on a regular basis. Sandra, a GEDCOM is generated by your genealogy software, as has already been stated before, it generally is done by choosing to Export the contents on your tree which will create the GEDCOM. So, I think the first question should be, do you have a genealogy program that you have created your family tree on? Hi, People will probably give me crap about this, but I used to have my Sheets DNA Project hosted at World Families Network, and I switched recently to Rootwebs free pages, mostly because WFN uses too much real estate for their pages, leaving less space for my project pages. I use Microsoft Word for all my pages, and I was happy to find that all of my pages display as advertertized. Meaning, what you see is what you get (WYSIWYG). Here is a link to my home page: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~sheetsdna/sheets%20dna%20project%20-%20home.htm At the top you can click on other pages in my project, in the dark brown with white text. nelda, it's faster to go to the bottom toolbar and click on the middle icon on the left, the one with the pen and that is composer, same icon that is displayed when you go to window on the top toolbar. eric In a message dated 5/3/2013 6:37:09 P.M. Hello Sandra. If you have a genealogy program that you have been working in, it most likely has 'create web page' ability. It will create the pages and you need only upload them. It would certainly do until you learned the basics of HTML. -- *Sheri * FamilyTwigs <http://freepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~familytwigs/> TwigTalk <http://familytwigs.blogspot.com/> On This Side of My Monitor <http://thissideofmymonitor.blogspot.com/>
SeaMonkey is the old Netscape just updated. I used Netscape Composer for my pages and then it was no more. Finally I found SeaMonkey and it functions just the same as Netscape. The old pages created with Netscape it will load them so I can update them. It's not the cleanest of code, but sure better than doing it from scratch for me. That was my problem. I used Composer 4.7 for years and loved it and free. But it would not work with new browsers. Sea Monkey is Free too. -----Original Message----- From: Elbocher@aol.com Sent: Friday, May 3, 2013 12:28 PM To: freepages-help@rootsweb.com Subject: [FreeHelp] SeaMonkey SeaMonkey is the old Netscape just updated.
