    3. I have no idea how many people are really on the Freepages list and I'm pretty sure you don't either. It was suggested that we ALL should be contacting them as often as possible. Lets assume there are a hundred [ wildly underestimated ] on the list calling and emailing all the time. If it was happening to you wouldn't you find it aggravating. 3. Sometimes you shouldn't aggravate your benefactor. We get virtually unlimited web space for FREE. I don't know of any place else that will give you that. I don't even want to think about how much space I'm using alone. It can't be en easy matter to deal with all that data and get it all moved and checked. Am I happy about the situation. No, but I'm willing to ride it out and hope for the best. Perhaps prayers for their abilities to deal with the issues. Thank you for your help," It's been two months since our WorldConnect trees were restored to their mid-December status and still no word about when we'll being able to resume uploading trees. It's even worse with Freepages. The last word was Jan. 9, when Ancestry.com promised that sites would start being restored a few at a time. But no word since then. The Jan 23rd statement didn't even commit to bringing our websites back at all. Why no status update? I want an estimate of when we will be able to resume uploads to WorldConnect. And for Freepages, I want to know: a) when we can download our web pages?; b) when will the process of restoring web sites to public access begin?; and c) hou much of Freepages functionality is Ancestry.com willing to commit to restoring. I've been the project leader for many IT projects and a IT director for a major corporation. My users would never have stood for this deafening silence? Why are we being kept in the dark?

    3. Thank you Deloris for your advice, I am not paying anyone for my website--Ancestry is being paid for membership. My pages were on Rootsweb, but unavailable to me for several months. That is what I was complaining about…that and the removal of the File Manager. Would you mind telling what a paid site costs? I am 81 and "stuck in my ways", so I was very disappointed to learn they removed the File Manager, as I had learned how to "master" it!. I downloaded the file loader they suggested and was so confused I could not do anything. Then I learned they had taken down my entire site. Sad to say, after several computer crashes, I did not have a good backup and I was depending on Roots Web to be secure. All during this time, Ancestry has been deducting $20 a month-and I can't do anything with my pages. Today, I wrote them and requested either my site be restored and/or they stop taking funds from me. IF I get my info back, I may look into a paid site-as currently, I am paying for NOTHING!!! 3. "I am aware of the WayBack Machine ie Internet Archive and I am thinking of posting my web sites there." All you need to do is add your primary URL for each site and ask WayBack to spider the site. They do the rest. The problem was that a file got made with User IDs and Passwords. Someone found it, told Ancestry, so now they need to fix security and check that hackers did not add something to someone's site or many someones' sites. J

    3. I was with Rootsweb prior to it being taken over Ancestry and I am sticking with it for the moment, as Freepages offers something that paid site generally do not offer.  Your web site remain up there for everybody to see even after you are dead.  With most paid sites, you stop paying and down comes your site. I am aware of the WayBack Machine ie Internet Archive and I am thinking of posting my web sites there. Ancestry's claim that the sites are unsafe has got me puzzled, as I would have thought that most of the family history web sites would be straight html coding, which offers minimum risk.
