Should have checked further before posting: I can see the front page of my website, but if I try to go to other pages it takes me to https://www.ancestry.com/. Don't tell me we have to change all the links - I just don't have enough hair left to tear out ... and probably not enough remaining years either. Good evening, Great to see my site online again. Hello I have found that my site has been restored and have changed my password. I have tried to FTP using Filezilla, using the ftp as you have stated - ie sftp://sitesuser.rootsweb.com. I used my previous username and my new password. But no joy - Filezilla says it cannot connect. Any help you can give me? Thanks, Jeff Jones
Yes, you definitely need a new password. Thanks Barry. I can't see the use of "top" & don't use frames. I think I'll just zap the entries as no value to the site..
Judy, Here's a list of the <a> tag target attributes. _blank | Opens link in a new tab or window. _parent | Opens link in the parent frame. _self | Open link in the current frame. _top | Opens link in the top-most frame. frame name | Opens link in the named frame. NOTE:: Frames are deprecated in HTML5. With reference to target="_blank", the actual effect will be determined by how the user has setup their browser, i.e. either a new tab or a new window. In any case, it is possible to place a javascript script in each page which will prompt any external links in the page to open as if they were hard coded with target="_blank" attribute. Update: I think Anne said on the RW-help list that they turned off PP. I may be wrong...
So I can leave the link and leave it up to a visitor whether to login. Kewl. Of course, if Xenu Link Checker complains it is a dead link, bye bye link.
I have a login to access my mailing list settings. I've had it for a long time. It also lets me access a database my cousin started. He made me an authorized editor/contributor and that works well. Yay! Barry came through again! -rt_/)
I was under the impression you had to pay to see anything on ancestry. What login would one use? The freepages login? Ancestry has a special account with bitly that translates all of its URLs to shorter URLs that start with ancstry.me -- it looks wrong, but it is right. Of course, the question remains - why do the URLs that RootsWeb itself adds go to addresses in the 'me' domain. Surely that can't be right. Is this something that needs to be reported to Ancestry? Is this something that has already been reported to Ancestry? Frances On Mon, Jul 16, 2018 at 2:51 PM Barry Carlson <[email protected]> wrote: > Those using the Ancestry/Rootsweb mailing lists will note that in the > interests of net safety, any links embedded in posts to the lists are > now checked for phishing and malware. > > The links submitted which are deemed to be safe are then encrypted and > appear in the posts. Those using the Ancestry/Rootsweb mailing lists will note that in the interests of net safety, any links embedded in posts to the lists are now checked for phishing and malware. The links submitted which are deemed to be safe are then encrypted and appear in the posts. Unsafe links do not appear. The following from Proofpoint describes what is taking place:- "This domain is part of the cybersecurity system that protects enterprise users from targeted phishing email and threats. If your organization (or an organization from which you've received a forwarded email) is using Proofpoint's Targeted Attack Protection product for advanced threat security, you may have received emails with URLs pointing to this domain. Every link starting with 'urldefense.proofpoint.com' is part of the TAP system. This checks that websites are safe to visit, with no malware. If the site is deemed safe by Proofpoint, your browser will redirect you to the original URL web destination. If the site is hosting malware, TAP will block users from accessing the malicious site. For more details, please visit our website at www.proofpoint.com Thank you for your interest! - The Proofpoint Team" Thanks to Ancestry/Rootsweb for helping to make the IOT a safer place. Barry
To view trees on Ancestry you always have to log in. You don't have to be a paying subscriber to see them, but you must log in. That has been the case for many years.
