Ann, all of your World Connect links will need to be updated to the new ones. Also the links to your images since you apparently used absolute url's. So this http://rootsweb.com/~ajobebrown/backgroundpics/cream.jpg Would become backgroundpics/cream.jpg Or http://sites.rootsweb.com/~ajobebrown/backgroundpics/cream.jpg I used search and replace to change all of my urls from http://rootsweb.com/~ajobebrown to http://sites.rootsweb.com/~ajobebrown This is a tutorial on using NoteTab light for Search and Replace gathered from a number of answers on this list http://sites.rootsweb.com/~gearyfamily/search-and-replace-notetab-light.html Pat -----Original Message----- From: Ann (Jobe) Brown [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, July 20, 2018 7:24 AM To: Website help <[email protected]>; Freepages Web Sites <[email protected]> Subject: [FreeHelp]Re: Once your site is up, here are the basics on getting into it I followed Anne's guideline and got the new password and skeleton of just first page is up http://sites.rootsweb.com/~ajobebrown/ None of the links go anywhere and I don't know how to fix them or even what they should be. Hello I am still struggling with FTP access to my restored freepages site. I am using Filezilla with sftp://sitesuser.rootsweb.com, my username (which was confirmed when I reset my password) and my new password. I am getting 'Authentication error'. I need some help please. My username is ormandy. Regards, Jeff
Hi Lydia, Best thing to do, first, is read through the list mail of the last few days. Anne has given the info many times so look at all her replies. Look for the link in her mails to request your site be restored. Look for the link to the new blog, too.
<....style fprolloverstyle>A:hover {color: red; font-weight: bold} </style> That made a hovered link get a bit bigger as if set in its own rectangular 'box', in red and bold. Barry had this. I added the 125% #content a:hover { background: transparent; color: #505BA4; text-decoration: underline; font-size:125%; } So how do I add the rest? What else can be used instead of underline? Thank you.

Hi, my site is back, that's fine. I changed my password as suggested. I'm trying to access my site with FileZilla and still cannot get any access. Are there any settings changed for FTP connections? I couldn't find but old guides for connecting with FTP. That they are old is easy to notice when the addresses start with "freepages.rootsweb.com" instead of "sites.rootsweb.com". Is the host name or any other setting changed? Thanks, Jorge
Yes, misc was the first one I listed.
I'm not looking forward to this, either.
Thanks Judy. Yeah, I know how to use Filezilla, I've occasionally used it on my County websites which are not on RootsWeb, just to see how it works, and I had to use it a couple years ago on my Freepages site when there were issues with RW before and everybody had to learn how to use the settings at the time (which were thankfully rolled back). I just find it easier to do everything in one program rather than switching back & forth, and I like FP, everything is done in one place Guess I'd better start brushing up on it again for when my Freepages site does come back, though. You might also find more urls in the Broken List in Frontpage. I use Frontpage also. You can make css based web sites without ditching Fp. As long as you aren't using Fp based features, like borders, your site/s should be fine. For RW accts, they got Filezilla working. The biggest issue (beyond set up) is remember LEFT is Local/PC side, and RIGHT is LIVE online. Make sure you are "in" the LIVE site before starting. One good way to learn it is make a folder named z_test. In it, put a file named my-test.html In Filezilla, upload the folder from PC side (highlight, right click, choose action). . See where it goes in your Live site. Then, on the RIGHT, highlight that folder... right-click and choose one of the options, like delete. On the PC side in Frontpage first, move the z_test folder into any folder you have. Reconnect in Filezilla. On the PC / Left side, highlight the folder that has z_test folder. On the right, make sure you are in your live website. Now on the left, highlight, right click, choose upload....On the web, you should now have the z_folder with that file in it. To delete, open the main folder where it sits...Highlight folder z_test. Right click, choose the one for delete. OR you can keep playing with it. Try it... fun! I haven't done Filezilla for a couple years.... I gotta refresh my skills. LOL Judy _______________________________________________

First, you will need to reset your password. Go to: https://useraccount.rootsweb.com/websites/requestChangePassword And enter the email address where you received this email. If you don't see the email, check your spam folder. Click on the link and follow the steps to reset your password. You must click the box to accept the Terms and Conditions and Privacy Statement. Once you have done that, you can access your site or sites. We do not support fileman any longer, and will not be bringing it back. You may use any FTP client to access the site. This short video will show you how to use FileZilla to access your site. https://www.ancestry.com/academy/course/connect-rootsweb-filezilla The host you will be connecting to is: sftp://sitesuser.rootsweb.com You can find your site using two different URLs https://www.rootsweb.com/~sitename or https://sites.rootsweb.com/~sitename Your RootsWeb Team

I would look at starting in find a replacement for Front Page, it has NOT been support in many years and I am surprised that sites like Rootsweb are still provide the needed files on the servers. By going to something else you will get away from the Microsoft code bloat, which is also built into the current office products. If you have copies of your Rootsweb files locally (which you should) you could start using a different webpage program now, so when your sites is on line you can replace it with the new code. Should have checked further before posting: I can see the front page of my website, but if I try to go to other pages it takes me to https://www.ancestry.com/. Freepages had at least 9 or 10 directories. The word communities was used in File Man. 1. The miscellaneous directory was the default directory and was abbreviated to http://freepages.misc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~florian/ I used this first page as a place to list all my sites housed under rootsweb/ancestry 2 The genealogy directory was probably the most used directory. 3 Family was likely the next most often used. There was also 4. religions (with s ) 5. school-alumni 6. history 7. military 8. computers I'm missing 1 or 2 that I never used..... anyone know them? There was a Title A to Z listing the public could use to find anyone's site. If I named my site, "The Hornets", it was under "T". If I named it "Hornets", it was under H. The Titles were taken from what was in the META TITLE Tag. For your future to-do list, Ann, could you ask if they will bring that back in the end? Oh gawd--- if they change the urls for those, it will be a huge mess to change on-site and interconnected site urls, both absolute links and relative links. Horror! Not that it matters now, but.... Is there a chance that the site & password list someone said they found in RW was the "master list" of all our sites with assigned PWs? We never chose our PWs and could never change them. Maybe that was how someone(s) inside RW kept track?? Just an idea...

If you used relative links (just the path to the pages) your pages should adjust. If you used absolute links (the full url) yes you will need to change all of the links. Use search andreplace to make the job easier.
