    3. I am so glad I started doing genealogy web pages in 1996 when KISS was the only option. When bold wasn't <b> but and relative links were the logical way to code, and no one had invented CSS and includes and all the java scripts. I'll admit to using a java script on my contact page to mask my email (works perfectly), but that's it. My goal has always been to provide information. Whizzbangs never made the information more important. I'm not selling anything - I'm giving away research data. Just saying. 3. I don't understand what is happening. Earlier today, I could view as a visitor all 3 of my computers pages, and then a little while ago, I could visit the index pages in my genealogy and family community pages. But now the same URLs I used earlier lead me to ancestry's loading page. Were all my pages brought back up by accident and then taken back down again? I have not yet asked for them to be put back online, and thought maybe all the complaints were resulting in them slowly working on all sites. I am also not receiving the password reset email, has their computer sending those emails gone on a vacation? My username is ~thecohens. Do the various comments in this thread mean the links to our pages will be different, or was that just a comment for people used to doing things in the file manager? 3. Caroline, Actually, an absolute link is like walking out the front door of your house, walking across the street, going around the block, crossing the street again, and going in the back door to your house.... just to go into your dining room after exiting your kitchen.. Absolute links take "the long way home". Relative links are kind of like real relatives in your house-- they go from one room to another without fanfare, and jump on your furniture with their shoes on. LOL judy

    3. IMO, stick with Frontpage (Fp) and Filezilla (Fz) for now. Fp is a good editor, and a user can learn to use external CSS. Fz is a great FTP, once a user learns what Fz can do. My best advice with Fz is to make a folder and file on your PC, and practice sending it online via Fz. I'm leaning toward moving to Expressions Web, but only after I finish upgrading my last website.

    3. I decided to continue with EW since it does what I want it to do with the exception of publishing to RootsWeb. I keep it open and once I update a page, I use Filezilla to publish it. Just make sure if you add images, that you publish them too. I am not sure any of the older web editors are going to work with RootsWeb. I have no trouble at all publishing to Bluehost where all of the other sites I work on are located. I also have Dreamweaver but it is CS6 and no way am I going to upgrade. I had been thinking about upgrading to something else even before the site went down. Now that I can't use it to ftp, I'm totally not sure what to use. I don't want to spend a lot of money, preferably none, but a lot of the site development stuff I see online includes hosting which I don't need - and many are online development, not local. I want something stand-alone where I can keep the website on my computer and work on it when I am riding in the car or somewhere with no internet. And, if possible, something I could upload directly, not have to get some other ftp program, although from the messages I've seen that doesn't seem like it's much of a possibility. I am fairly computer literate, so it doesn't have to be super simple and totally WYSIWYG, but don't want to spend lots of time coding and cleaning things up in the background. What kinds of software do others use and recommend? Or does someone know of a website that does a comparison so I could decide what I could live with and what I'd have to put up with?

By going to something else you will get away from the Microsoft code bloat, which is also built into the current office products. If you have copies of your Rootsweb files locally (which you should) you could start using a different webpage program now, so when your sites is on line you can replace it with the new code. 3. Judy, You could add:- #content a:hover { background: transparent; color: #505BA4; text-decoration: underline; font-size:100%; |transform:scale(1.25);|  } |.. and you could also play with scaling the text by width and height, e.g. transform(1.25, 1.5) Try it and play with the values.
