Yes they are being restored still. You can keep up to date, get instructions and find links here: http://rootsweb.blog [http://rootsweb.blog/] That link is found at the end of each email from this mailing list. Check your site daily - i.e. http://sites.rootsweb.com/~youruserid/ Bryan
Yes I hope they are processing I think I applied a few weeks ago And I did so again today I assume my site will be http://sites.rootsweb.com/~lankshear I did this with my yahoo address which is what I had before On the password etc site I also said I wanted to use this gmail address would be good to have both Blessings from Ron Lankshear
Paul, I believe they still are only restoring sites that were in the genealogy_html subdirectory, is that where you published your site, or was it all in a different location or community? The others are supposed to be available eventually, has anyone seen a different community's content come up yet - for example, the one for family? If your site was in the genealogy_html directory, the url to it now would be: https://sites.rootsweb.com/~YOURSITEID On 8/11/18, Paul Sheats <paul.sheats@q.com> wrote: > Hi, > > I requested my site be restored around July 7th, so it's been about 5 weeks, > and it is still not restored. Judy, The img width equals the actual width plus the left + right padding. Reducing the padding wont cause problems, but adding it could. Trial and error method! One more thing.... <div class="column2a"> Your left hand column text goes here. </div> <div class="column2b"> Your right hand column text goes here. </div> Would I just keep repeating within divs <div class="column2a"> <div class="column2b"> And, can I leave 1 line empty like below? For example, my next set is: Emma Hleis J. B. Hlein D. J. Strain Ella E. Strain Samuel Amspoker Margaret Porter W. W. Porter Irene Amspoker Strain Thomas R. Strain Elizabeth C. A. Wright Jacob X Wright The above ____ (rest unreadable)
Judy, If you need to make changes to the existing CSS on account of Military folders, then the following is possibly the easiest way to do it. Where the existing CSS is not doing what you want, add a second class to the appropriate item; e.g. class="newname oldname" Create a separate CSS file with styles for .newname. Test it by adding a link to it following the existing stylesheet. Once you are satisfied with the results, either leave everything as it is, else if you want to make work for yourself, remove the new stylesheet and add those styles to the bottom of your existing stylesheet. I picked up from Marsha Bryant, the USGW webmaster, this trick for labeling multiple SIZES of floats/columns. She creates classes for 2 column floats, 3 column floats, and even 4 column floats if you need them. --- Pat, Are there any limits on number of columns and rows? I'm still stressing about CSS tables (other than the site table structure). I don't like how the CSS ones look, but don't know how to change them, either. I'm tackling most text-only pages first, and picture plus float text.. Not looking forward to the big folders. Thank you, Judy
Is there any reason the padding on img float must be 5px? Will I cause problems if I change it to 1px? Thank you.
Barry, I'm using your 2016 External CSS for my county pawashin site. It's been slow going to clean up pages. Other than tables, I'm doing mostly OK with applying the CSS. Those tables will be a bear to convert. However, my question.... how can I use the CSS as it is, but change the backgrounds for use on the military folders? Do I copy the CSS file into a new file name, then change the backgrounds, and put the new CSS file in those pages? What is the proper way to do this? In addition, I'm probably going to want to have another background set for the entire large folder of people photos. So same question-- how do I drop out the first css file and use a 3rd file? Thanks Judy
Paul asked: I'm assuming they are still working on restoring sites? -- Yes.
Hi, I requested my site be restored around July 7th, so it's been about 5 weeks, and it is still not restored. I'm assuming they are still working on restoring sites? Thanks. Paul
I have also expressed concern to Ancestry and Rootsweb staff about letting sites go that have deceased webmasters. They need to make a plan so some of us can adopt these sites or incorporate the content into our 'near-topic' websites.

I ask that RootsWeb please restore this site. A couple of years before Tom Pick passed away he sent me a letter expressing his concern that his data might disappear after he dies. Mixed Content means a combination of http and https. From research I did on this last month, it is not as horrid as they are making it sound. It is not truly unsafe. It only means our sites have http pages, while the host has made top level into https (e.g. www.rootsweb.com).

HTTPS / SSL Thanks to Rootsweb for starting to include SSL encryption on our web sites. Several things still need to be included to complete the full installation of SSL encryption. First is to automatically switch URL entries such as http://sites.rootsweb.com/~websiteid<http://sites.rootsweb.com/%7Ewebsiteid>, sites.rootsweb.com/~websiteid, to https://sites.rootsweb.com/~websiteid<https://sites.rootsweb.com/%7Ewebsiteid> when entered as a URL in the web browser. For now unless you enter the https:// when you enter the URL to view your website the web browsers are showing the websites as UNSECURE. Next I noticed that the https:// is NOT being carried forward to sub-directories. Each of my different family pages are in a sub-directory under my main ~websiteid directory therefore these sub-directories are being shown as UNSECUREs. I’m sure both of these are possible as I manage several other web sites on different hosting services and they both work as suggested above. Still not able to access my military web site under military_html sub-directory but the last I remember was that this would come later. Again I do appreciate Rootsweb getting my genealogy web site back on line. Other then the SSL encryption items above my ~wlsetzer web site is back on line and updated. Those of us on the list can't answer your question. Are there files on the server that you don't have on your computer? You will need to download them so you have archived copies. Have you updated files on your computer that you need to copy to the server so your most recent updates will be displayed on line? Then you will need o upload those files. Whether you need to download or upload a particular file, make sure that you are looking at the same (sub) directory in both the local and remote sides in Filezilla, so your files are copied to the place you want them to be. Pat A.
Hi Neil, I'm unsure from your description what you double-clicked on. You may or may not have done a download, which you may or may not have wanted to do. A few suggestions if I may. 1) Always keep a relatively current copy of your entire site on something other than your local hard drive. A flash drive is my external media of choice. 2) Never double-click on *anything* in Filezilla. Use right-click followed by Upload or Download or whatever. That way you will always know exactly what is going to happen. Congratulations on your progress! -- Charlie Carothers http://www.freebiblecommentary.org <http://freebiblecommentary.org>
