    3. I think the list has been down. All of my earlier tries were returned as Delivery Status Notification (Failure) I have a code for a box which I want to use. I have run into an odd problem with it though. This is the code: <textarea rows="4" cols="40"> </textarea> It puts up a list/box which scrolls if it gets long. I want to use it in this way: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~injacktp/ The problem is I see spell check edits and you can write in the box or delete the text. It will come back if you X out and go to the page again. How do I overcome this problem, or where can I go to learn how to create a box another way? Thank you Sheri

    3. Sheri, Why are you using a text area for a form to display data for the page? Text areas are made for inputting data for forms, not for displaying content. Are you trying to create a form or tell viewers what is new on your site? Lorrie n 11/11/10 15:33, Sheri Bush wrote: > I think the list has been down. I tried going inot the editor -- Dee Dee, I have no way of knowing if you have copied and pasted existing text to the WYSIWYG window, or if you have "aligned" your text in the WYSIWYG window using the space bar. Either way, the WYSIWYG window is not the same size as a web page, and spaces appear in HTML coding as "&nbsp". What you have is one very long paragraph with a great many spaces which will not line up on your web page as displayed in a browser window. In the editing window, remove all those spaces, then use the "enter" key once to start a new line or twice to start a new paragraph. Pat Asher

My companion site is no longer on RootSWeb but was for many years. http://www.family-genealogy-online.com/little/ The sites are linked together. If you want to update the information generated, you just replace your old GEDCOM file with a new one. If you are interested in an editor that you can use on your computer then publish to the Roosweb servers, you can check out any of the ones listed on the right sidebar of http://www.genealogy-web-creations.com/resources.htm Pat

    3. Dee, First, Descendant pages work better on World Connect (I think that is the name. The freepages aren't supposed to be used to display Gedcom info, and especially since it works better on the World Connect area. I've never used the Online Editor. Go to your page in a browser, right click, and go down to View Source. That shows the code it's using. The problem is that the code is using <.p align="justify"> (without the period after the < ) It sounds like you wanted the "Descendants of Stanislav Anusczkiewicz" to be large type - H1 and centered -- the program is setting justify as centered. But then, it's continuing -- Every line after that also uses justify for alignment. See if the editor can make a DIV before Generation No. 1 and re-align left. Then, go through and set each paragraph to align=left like for "STANISLAV ANUSCZKIEWICZ was born in...." After you set all the alignment, you'll need a closing DIV. You'll also see in View Source that every time you hit "spacebar" it inserts this code without the quotes "&nbsp;" which isn't a good thing. Other people can recommend free Editors that might do a better job, and can help more with the coding. 3. It is free. It comes up on you context, quick, right click menu. You can specify width&Height if you are fitting to a web page layout. You can resize one or many more at a time. By default, makes a duplicate to preserve the original, or opt out. Much easier, more effective than Adobe Save-for-web. Download the program from MicroSoft. You don't have to think about pixels, pixels per inch, compression percentage, or so forth. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/digitalphotography/learnmore/tips/eschelman2.mspx On Thu, Nov 4, 2010 at 2:00 AM, <freepages-help-request@rootsweb.com> wrote: > .<snip> > > Although I just asked about one image I have several dozen that I want > to eventually upload to the site - all with a similar problem. 3. For your information: There is a free for download at http://www.irfanview.com/main_download_engl.htm program called IrfanView that when doing a "Save As" for a JPG file you can set a slider to a quality percentage and reduce the byte size of that photo. You are actually degrading the quality of the photo, but I have viewed many of the them side by side with the original on my monitor and at quality between 30 to 40% many of them you can just barely see the difference. I keep a copy at the original resolution and use the degraded quality one with a slightly different file name for the web site and the byte size reduction can be considerable, but it varies for each photo. The styles are all within the external style sheet. If you look at the source code for this and the one you currently are using, you should see a lot less code which makes trouble shooting much easier. I'm not sure what is available for a MAC for a web editor but I am sure someone on this list can tell you. Should render the same in all browsers. To change colors, edit the style sheet. If you are interested, I'll clean it up as their are unneeded styles within the style sheet. I left out the large image at the bottom as it is way too wide but it can easily be resized and added. This uses a fixed width al layout but a fluid layout could also be used. Off to fix dinner now. pat

This came up recently on another list and looking at your source code you have a lot of code for various widgets. When I view your page, I see the Pico Search button and the input box with no problem in both FF and IE8. I also have no problem viewing it or using it in Opera of Safari for Windows. All are the latest versions of each browser. You do have some problems with the page which I am assuming are caused by all of the absolute positioned items. What I see is the PicoSearch logo, an input box next to it and the Search Button. If I type cemeteries in the box, I am then given a page with a list of cemeteries. I must be going blind though cause as hard as I look, I do not find the code for the PicoSearch box. Pat
