Why is the use of INDEX.ASP restricted?
List, In my search for online IE browser testing, I found a few and some for other browsers, as well. These listed sites are free online services only, nothing to download and none for a fee. Sounds simple enough, but only one of those browsers can be used at one time, and uninstalling IE8 causes the browser to revert to IE7 and likewise back to IE6. I'll ignore Windows Vista and 7 for the time being, as IE9 is W3C compliant and if something works in Firefox 4 or Chrome 11, it will work in IE9 (subject to the level of CSS3 thats available). You haven't mentioned what operating system you are using, but as I have already mentioned Mac O/S X and the Windows/Linux solutions available, I suspect you are using a Linux based O/S on PC. Because I have used Windows XP until recently, when I moved to a Windows 7 Pro O/S, I now have the ability to run both Windows XP Mode and Windows Virtual for PC. This allows me to continue using the Multiple IE and IE Tester utilities from my old laptop, and provides means of testing IE8 back to IE3 (if required). Programs previously compatible wth XP can also be run. I note that a version of IE6 has been adapted to run on the Linux platform, but without installing a Windows O/S version in a partition on your existing PC, I don't know of any other method of running MS browsers. The browsers and operating systems listed in http://browsershots.org is a reasonably comprehensive list of what is commonly used. Barry
And the other OS system funny is that you be able on Apple MAC running a windows simulation program Some of these run in Windows on a MAC Some are WINE and are approximately COCOA Some of these are WINE based and recently I installed Crossover from Codeweavers so they could run Office 2003. I assume I could have installed an IE browser Ron Lankshear -Sydney NSW (from London-Shepherds Bush/Chiswick) try my links http://freepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~lankshear/
Well I have very similar to Pat Except I am still XP so will remain at IE8 as IE9 needs a different MS OS As well as FF OPera and Chrome I have Pale Moon which is really the same as FF but especially tuned for Windows - it loads faster and much less memory usage - but all the FF Addons. Also Rockmelt which is a social network focussed browser - but seems to do browser things. A Facebook cousin suggested it. I am not yet sold on it. Which brings me to a question I tend to use Chrome for Ancestry.com searches as I found that FF and PM both have problems finishing loading pages when I am into deep drilling down searches within Ancestry. Suddenly page finishes but is blank. I looked at Forums and other reporting same but seemed to be no resolution. Whereas Chrome doesn't really have any problems drilling through several Ancestry pages and opening new tabs. However I like PM/FF for Table2clipboard Addon with Ancestry. Chrome has Table Capture which just doesn't have the Table2clip functions. I run CCLEANER to clear caches etc Anyone experienced similar? If its to detect the User Agent and deliver a specific stylesheet for that browser, then I'd use PHP or SSI to achieve that. Whatever browser is detected, it will be running on an O/S that it has been designed for, which means that Safari for Mac O/S and Safari for PC should behave the same way irrespective of the host O/S. Likewise, there is Parallels Desktop 6 for Mac X which will emulate Win XP, Vista and Windows 7 and also run any browser designed to use those platforms. In fact Mac X users with the addition of this application are far better off than the average Win/Linux O/S on PC user. I'm aware that certain mobiles require their own browser version for correct operation, and UA detection will be useful in delivering an appropriate stylesheet. Or is it just for testing purposes you wish to switch User Agent? Barry My experience has been that certain commercial websites use UA detection when checking security features, and may stop you using transaction features if the browser doesn't report correctly.
Barry, I do use Linux and have Wine and Virtual Box installed. This allows me to run a browser that emulates IE6 and IE6 and FF in a windows os on a partitioned drive. But that is limited because I can't access IE 7 and 8. Windows is the problem child for me so must rely on IE6 and sites like Browser Shots. Even Browser Shots have their limitations. You can't select an os/browser combo. Selecting, for example, IE7, may show test results from several os' or not. So I want more finite control. I know a site exists that list the info I seek. I found at least one such site in the past but can't find the bookmark. I am also considering paying for such service online. There are sites that will allow access via images and virtual desk tops as well as mobile. I am still checking out such sites for prices and functionality. By the way, I am putting a list together of IE os/combos from the replies to my message. Thanks all. Barry, Sorry for the confusion. First, I want a list of all os and their browsers. Second, I am testing a website and need to do so in Windows, which I don't have. List, I am looking for a website that lists operating systems and the browsers they use. Although I am interested in all os/browser combos, right now I am specifically interested in Windows because I need to test a website in Windows. I am checking out Windows sites for this info, too. What I need is a list in table form, if possible. Please email me with any sites that you think might address all or windows specific os/browser combos. To test the site I am pursuing two methods. First, sites like browsershots and second, using "User Agent Switcher". Has anyone tried "User Agent Switcher" to test sites? I am having trouble getting browser and mobile specific style sheets to apply to the site before uploading. Lorrie

David, This is the first time I've really looked at timestamps. Could someone tell me why B represents Month? (Why not M?) When I looked at your page, I see the EN language in your Meta. Part of post from http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum46/1436.htm Author "pageoneresults" with post ID of " #:940893 " <snipped> There are two options that are default in FrontPage for Date and Time Stamps. Date this page was last edited. Date this page was automatically updated. FrontPage does not have a webbot (that I know of) that will provide the current date and time. There are third party plugins for FrontPage that do this with Jbots being the most popular. Actually, after looking at the code ... The page is set as dutch, and when a reverse translation is run, 'mars' returns as 'march' ... I think the date is in mistranslated dutch, not french. I believe the correct translation would be 'Maart', 'mars' meaning a type of walking instead of a month of the year. ----- Original Message ----- > Message: 1 > Date: Sun, 27 Mar 2011 06:23:26 -0700 (PDT) > From: David Nijsens <dn2113@yahoo.com> > Subject: [FreeHelp] Last modified date's language > To: Freepages-Help@rootsweb.com > Message-ID: <588085.52797.qm@web65903.mail.ac4.yahoo.com> > Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 > > Hello, > > My operating system (Win XP) isn't French speaking. > Nowhere as far as I can see, do I indicate the page is in French. > Yet, at the bottom, just above the Ancestry banner, the month of the last > modified date is in French. > > <!--webbot bot="Timestamp" S-Type="EDITED" S-Format="%d %B %Y" > --> > > Yes, I know I could copy from somewhere a (lenghty) script that winkles > the month out of the last modified date and replaces it with the word in > English or even... in the same language as the page.?
