The FTM 2010 file which I exported as a gedcom file to WorldConnect displays no duplicate Notes for individuals. However, the tree which appeared on WorldConnect - entitled "Rosacker Roots in Schleswig-Holstein" -- has repeated duplicates Notes. See for example: Rosacker, Wulf. I would contact Rootsweb the link at the bottom of the page and tell them about the problem. If that does not work, delete your current database and then reload it. Then if you still have the problem it is a issue with your FTM file. I assume at some time you downloaded that web page directly from the Live Web. That line is part of code inserted by Rootsweb when displaying the page. Their code needs to be removed if a page is "recovered" from the site. Why? what do I need to do to get this information shown on a >general web search? ============= I am not sure how long it takes for Google to find WorldConnect database names BUT one thing I have done to help link to two sites is to include a link on my WorldConnect site to the appropriate section of my genealogy site which is no longer hosted by Rootsweb. Example: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=littlefamily with this on each page that displays which is a link to the rest of the site on this family .Home Page: <http://www.family-genealogy-online.com/little/>The Little Family and Collateral Lines Without having a link to your FreePages site it is hard to tell you what needs to be done. It does take time for the Search engines to find you. The results they display will be pertinent to what the viewer searches for. And remember, not everyone is going to enter your site through your "front door" or Home Page. So each page should be optimized for the search engines. A good resource is Googles SEO Starter Guide which can be downloaded for free. You will not be able to follow all of their recommendations but it will give you some guidance. You can read more about it here http://www.genealogy-computer-tips.com/google-search-engine-optimization-starter-guide/ and there is a link to dl the guide. If you click the link on the WordlConnect site, you will be taken to http://www.family-genealogy-online.com/little/ which deals with that specific line of my family. You heading tags to layout the outline of your site. H1 being the most important and they should be used in the proper order. You can read more about the use of heading tags here http://www.genealogy-web-creations.com/heading-tags.html Back to your Freepages site. Include links on your pages back to your database. I do not link to the main page of my WorldConnect database except for the link that says Search the Database but to the pertinent page. Example: <http://worldconnect.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=REG&db=littlefamily&id=I80>Register Report from RootsWeb Database on Samuel Little and Elizabeth Boone which takes the viewer to the page with that information. One advantage to linking to the database rather than including the report on my site is that anytime I update the database, the report will be automatically updated. When I first began making pages, I didn't know about "includes". Pat G. or Pat A. or others on this list told me about them and showed me how to make an include. But, at first I only used includes for certain parts of my pages, but not all things that I could have done. What is an include? An include is one page that contains info you might repeat all on many web pages. An include page therefore is inserted by code into many webpages. A webpage can use many includes. As an example, if you use a footer for your contact info and copyright, it's easiest to use an include because you'll only need to change ONE page to update your info. An include page can be used, as another example, to put internal links onto many webpages (for example, if you have a bunch of webpages on one topic and need to link those to each other, especially if the pages are consecutive reading, like book pages.) As we all figure out (eventually), links to other people's webpages change-- often frequently. We might use external links to libraries, newspapers, educational institutions, online encycopedias, wiki, etc. It's very disheartening when a favorite site removes their content, or re-arranges their websites, leaving us with numerous broken links on our webpages! I have learned a BIG lesson about putting a list of external links for GPS data on my pages for one specific folder in my website that contains hundreds of pages. This was before I knew about includes. I recently discovered that I have over 1,000 broken external links for the GPS data! Arrrgh! If I had put those external links in an "include page", I would now only need to update ONE page. Without an include, I now manually have to go fix a few hundred pages/over 1,000 links. But lesson learned-- this time, they are going into an "include". :-D (I'm thinking about putting all external links into includes in the future!) If you haven't started using Includes and don't know what they are, ask for help to learn how to make and use them. Includes truly will help you down the road as your website grows. Judy

Could you give a link to your site? Are you using an on-site Search, such as Google's Webmaster Tools? A browser "reads" what is on a webpage, but a bot must index the page and it's content. The World area and the freepages area are separate entities. I would think you'd at least need to place an index of names on your freepages to get them to show as being on your freepages. A google on-site search box would assist google to 'find' your stuff. It's fairly easy to set up and to insert the code that Google Webmaster Tools gives. You'll also use a "verify" code that is given from Google. I don't have a World Connect GEDCOM but what I'd do is: 1. Generate a names-only index to put on the freepages website. 1b. You could make one (or more) "index" pages per alphabet letter (surnames) on your freepages website. 1c. You could add descriptive pages for some of the people on your freepages, such as stories, photos, extras. Link all the same-name pages to each other. Crosslink as you think appropriate. 1d. (Not sure if this can be done)-- Link some or all of the freepages Index of Names to specific GEDCOM pages for that family/ person. (i.e. crosslink between freepages and the gedcom pages) 2. On every freepages/website page, make sure you have a link to your GEDCOM beginning page. 3. Think of ways to use your freepages to expand some aspects of your family's genealogy, history, location info/history, family, relationships, schooling, life experiences, religious affiliations, clubs/group memberships, etc. etc. For Example, let's say your key family members were founding members of XXX Church. You could expand to include pages about the XXX Church history, how your family supported/influenced/built the church or its goals. 4. On your freepages, use some identifier for you on all web pages. i.e. your name, a way to contact you, etc. Can you use the name of the GedCom on your website, for example? 5. Make sure Google knows where your pages are by using Google On-Site Search. There are other on-site tools, like Pico or Freefind. All are free. 6. Ask for more information about the best use of HEAD tags in your web pages. This is a big subject, but generally, you need to make sure every page has a good TITLE tag, DESCRIPTION tag, and KEYWORDS tag, plus have these match or reflect what is on "each" particular webpage. For examples: If you put a map on a webpage, all 3 tags plus the words on your page should have map as one of the words. Use full names of people when you write content, as an example, instead of saying "May, wife of George Xmith" it helps with Google search to use women's full names, like Mary Yyabb married George Xmith on xxx date. Mary Yyabb Xmith taught in a one room schoolhouse in McKean County State..." Although Google returns search words that are nearby on a webpage, it always helps to put the words together that we really want Google to find.
