    3. Or, the free program Filezilla can upload parts or the entire website. Filezilla works well with the "freepages" and "rootsweb" accounts on rootsweb.ancestry servers. 3. Mike, A good way to upload multiple files, without zipping them, is to use ftp from the command line. This should work in most OS's (Windows, Mac, Linux) First, open your command line. In windows, I believe you can launch it by going to start -> run, then typing in cmd and pressing enter. Mac is Terminal.app. Linux varies but should be some form of Terminal/Konsole in the menu. In the command line, change to the directory containing all the files to upload. The easiest thing to do would be to have all those files in the folder be those that you want to upload and none you do not. To change to the directory, type: >cd path/to/directory/ To start the ftp, type: >ftp -i users.freepages.rootsweb.com You'll then enter your freepages username and password at the prompts. You are now in the top level of your website. You can continue to change directories with the cd command until you're in the spot you want to upload your files. If you need to see a list of files, type: Windows: >dir Mac/Linux: >ls When you're ready to upload, use the mput command. * is a wildcard >mput * or >mput *.html >mput update_* ...whatever your files are named. It will upload all files matching that wildcard, so you don't have to do it by hand. The mput command allows you to use wildcards and therefore upload multiple files at once. Single files can use the put command, such as >put index.html ~Amanda > On Monday, October 31, 2011 1:08 PM > Mike wrote: > >> Is it possible for me to copy a zipped file from my computer to my >> genealogy folder on Free Pages and then unzip it there? > > ============= > Mike

Thank you Mike You can download a ZIP file from Free Pages, then unzip it on your computer. But you cannot unzip that file when it's still on Free Pages and have the results stay on Free Pages.

I did a page with a similar idea: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~okgarftp/cemetery/index.html Use one column to list other source sites instead of three (4?) for instance. 3. Ralph, thank you! After studying my CSS book and fooling around with the table properties, I was able to get the z-index the overlay the table on top of the page border, when the screen size is too small to display the entire table. Naturally, this caused another problem in IE, not as serious, but . . . Above the table the page border expands to the same size as the table -- it wouldn't be so bad, but it leaves the menu sort of hanging there without a righthand border. If this can't be fixed, I can live with it, but if anyone has suggestions, I would really appreciate them. The page is at: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~watpcgs/cemeteries.html Thanks, Jane On 10/13/11, Ralph Taylor <rt-sails@comcast.net> wrote: > Re: 'Yes, I know what creates the border, I was just hoping someone would > know of a way to tell it to be behind the table..' > > If I recall correctly, CSS has a "z-index" feature to govern what appears on > top of what. Removing the offending Find a Grave script gets rid of the problem, which is related to the script inserting another HTML page to provide the form. On your page you have inserted a whole sequence <p> spacers, which appear to be where the Find a Grave form has been inserted. As there is no need for the form to be inserted by javascript as a separate HTMl page, my suggestion is you remove all those <p> tags after the last line of <p style="padding-bottom: 0pt; " class="Body"> ===== </p> and replace with:- <div style="position:relative"> <!--Form goes in here--> </div> Beneath the </div> above, you should leave the next 3 </divs> and remove all the code down to - <div style="height: 134px; width: 158px; height: 134px; left: 483px; position: absolute; top: 17px; width: 158px; z-index: 1; " class="tinyText stroke_1 shadow_1"> I've attached by separate email a .txt file with the Form code and a copy of the code that needs removing below where it goes. As you have been using absolute positioning, the location of items as they appear on your page often bears no relation to where the code is, which makes it rather difficult to detect where errors may be. 3. z-index Declares the stack order of the element. Integer values and the predefined value auto. div { z-index:2; } div { z-index:auto; } might also look at: float Declares whether a box should float to the left or right of other content, or whether it should not be floated at all. left right none div { float:left; } div { float:right; } On 10/13/2011 12:37 PM, Ralph Taylor wrote: > Re: 'Yes, I know what creates the border, I was just hoping someone would > know of a way to tell it to be behind the table..' > > If I recall correctly, CSS has a "z-index" feature to govern what appears on > top of what. 3. Thanks, Pat. Yes, I know what creates the border, I was just hoping someone would know of a way to tell it to be behind the table, that's how it displays in IE. Unfortunately I can't remove the border without removing it from all the pages. I've come up with a different solution, which results in losing the top border of the footer section instead. Part of the "problem" is that the "page container" is begun in one include and ended in another, which, of course, is supposed to make things easier. Thanks again, Jane On 10/9/11, Pat Geary <pat@the-gearys.com> wrote: > At 01:01 PM 10/9/2011, Jane Irish Nelson wrote: >>I've just added a new page to the website I oversee for my local >>genealogy society.
