    1. [FreeHelp] Footer issues
    2. Jenny Volker via
    3. First off, I started messing with a working footer and not making a copy first. I know better, but wasn't thinking. I have several problems that have come up. When the footer inserts into the page, the "Created and Modified" part of each page is now off center. It also doesn't run the script to insert my email address after "Website Created and Maintained by." All of this ran perfectly before. Not sure what I added or deleted in the code. Also, could someone tell me how to center the navigation buttons in the footer? I would like to do 4 buttons on the first row, and three on the following rows to make 13. I know I need to redo all these pages and update the HTML version, etc. But, for right now, I just want to get it "functioning" until I have the time to allot to fixing it the "right" way. Thanks. Jenny The website is http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~azmwwduv/

No blanks just the code. pat -----Original Message----- From: hutley via [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, September 25, 2015 2:30 PM To: Barry Carlson <[email protected]>; freepages-help <[email protected]> Subject: [FreeHelp] Windows 10 and viewing code Hi Barry, Can you tell me how to view the code of my webpage in Windows 10. The only way I can see the code is by opening filemanager/html. When I right click on my website and select “view source” I get an odd looking screen with nothing on it. Guess my web knowhow is pretty limited. Would appreciate hearing from you.

Any help appreciated Thanks Lonnie fink [email protected] *****Lonnie, I also tried to get my huge site/"PWPs" off of comcast.net, (Xfinity]. All pwps will be DELETED on Oct. 8, 2015.I'd built mine w/ their original "Editor" back in 2008.  From your 2012 date, on your freepage, might I assume you'd built your comcast.net/ pwps using what was then known as "splash"?  (Chose a Template from "splash", and used the the then new 'editor') I hadn't.  My pwp/site was built w/ the original 'editor'; it would have been like building an entire new site from scratch.  I left my site up as built; it became "read only".  I didn't mind because at least the site was there.  (I never dreamed Comcast.net would delete our pwp/sites!)  I can still "sign in", but I now only see a few 'files', which are images.  Comcast.net isn't providing any way to DOWNLOAD our sites (pwps); never had, to my knowledge.  Because I didn't rebuild using "splash" I can't use the ftp Comcast suggests downloading/using to transfer my files.  https://publish.comcast.net/splash/# | Effective October 8, 2015, the Personal Web Page service (feature of XFINITY Internet) will no longer be available. Please retrieve all content currently saved on your site before October 8, 2015 to avoid permanently losing your files and information.  Customers who have activated this feature, please check your email for a special offer. | | | (btw, I didn't get any email for the "special offer", did you?)  Like you, I would have to copy & paste.  And, again, since I didn't build w/ 'splash',  I have a different Template, a BLACK background, and colored fonts (i.e., red and yellow). The copy/paste is a nightmare. I like my site/pwp, as is, and hate to let it get deleted, but I'm not finding any solution.    I think you might be able to save yours, but there are only a few Xfinity/Comcast Forums addressing this issue.  Mostly, people are directed to where you already are.  There aren't any specifics to help you move your PWPs.  More so, people are just angry. 1-800-COMCAST tech staff don't even know what paying subscribers are talking about!  The PWPs were only offered to people who knew about them and had "signed up" (mostly, years ago).  You might or might not know about the Forums "Comcast Help & Support Community".  If not, you will have to SIGN-IN w/ your comcast.net User name and PW. THEN, create ANOTHER User name & PW to even READ the forums, and post your questions here:  http://forums.xfinity.com/t5/notificationfeed/page [Note: I'm providing the above info for those on this list who might not know what's going on with Comcast.net PWPs. Hopefully, others here can help Lonnie way more than I can.]  Lonnie, don't worry, you will be getting [sometimes massive] "Digests" from FreeHelp!  The list just seems quiet at the moment. I get "Individual emails", and noticed that you are a "newby".  I've been a Freepages user since before 2008, and still consider myself as a "Newby"!  The folks here are wonderful, will help you; and might end up suggesting other (better) ways of getting your data on your Freepage.  And, yes, some posts will seem like they are written in 'another language'.  [HTML & CSS coding... and, way more.]  Here's my measly input, for what I'm seeing w/ your Freepage; a "Test", if you will: 1. I took a look at both links you've given, [using Chrome as my browser].2. BOTH links, though clearly different, directed me to the SAME page.  ["getting href links to work"] :   [JCI Marriage Index by Grooms]http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~kettletree/BKC/JCI_Marriage_index_bkc.html 3. I also noticed you have at least one (what I'll refer to as a 'stray' line), which is rendering as an "almost hyperlink".  Note the ahttp:// as copied below: mary edna ahttp://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~kettletree/BKC/pgor 565 "565 "   You cannot have an "a", (or anything else) before any "http".   [Here, I'm not referring to "anything else" in the context of using HTML and/or CSS code, which would have certain 'symbols' when inserting a hyperlink "href command"; that's something others here can help with] 4. 2. Charles Dobie via
    3. Lonnie, Welcome to the wonderful world of HTML ! On first glance at your code, I see far too many double quotes ( " ) Let's look at the first line: elvina abel 501"<a href=""http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~kettletree/BKC/pg501.jpg""><strong>501</strong></a> There is an extra double quote before the <a href, as well as two double quotes before http and after .jpg. As an aside, you don't need <strong> or </strong> before and after 501, because system default is to make the linked text "strong" anyway. So I would first, make a backup of your file, second, massage your file with search and replace -- replace every instance of a double set of double quotes ("") with one double quote (") third, replace every instance of "<a href with <a href -- removing the double quote. After that, see how it displays and work from there. Good luck, Charlie Dobie At 01:49 PM 9/24/2015, you wrote: >Hi, > My Comcast.com server people recently decided to remove free user > space! 3. My first suggestion is to put all your images into a directory separate from the HTML pages. Save yourself a headache later. I usually use either "images" or "pics" for the name of my image directories. That way I can look at the directory structure and know what's in that directory. Second, I use relative links. In my use the link would be <a href="images/pg501jpg">. Compare that with your links. Third, you have two sets of quotes in your links: ""http://..........................jpg"" Take out one set and the links will work. 3. Hi David, It is the correct site. When working on the site I accidentally deleted the code for the counter. If you could send me the link to the counter code I probably could contact the help desk to get my counter number. If that is not the correct site, then you need to give us a link to the correct one?
