    3. Thanks to all for the suggestions. I found the coding problem, a missing space between attributes. Now it uploaded. Odd that last time I uploaded, before the freepages crash, it accepted the pages, but now is stricter. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~holdridge/albums/photoalbum.html Cindy Valerie, The page I am trying to upload would replace the album page that does not have the link. <http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~holdridge/census/holdridgecensus.html>The new page does have a link to an album. I just can't get it to upload with my other page changes. JFlorian, I have not used file manager in many years. I suppose I could delete and replace the page one time using File Manager, but then the next time I try to update the website wouldn't I have the same problem with this album page not updating? Thanks for the suggestions, Cindy Subject: Re: [FreeHelp] Restoring missing pages Hi Cindy, Looking at the page source I notice that for the last two album images you have not included the the link to the file, i.e. <td><a href="../nameoffile.html <http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~holdridge/census/holdridgecensus.html> " Could it be this that's causing the problem? Some of my updates were successful, but at least one page just will not update. I have tried to view it with Firefox, and IE, on two different computers and my I-Pad. I emptied the cache. Nothing seems to work. I know that it was on the site in October, I checked the Way Back site. I did not make any changes to the code before I tried to upload it again. Can someone please take a look at this URL http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~holdridge/albums/photoalbum.html on the Way Back machine, October 13, 2015 and tell me if you see anything in the code that would cause a probem now trying to upload it? On the bottom row of album images, the middle one is labelled "Fork Shoals Baptist Church Cemetery" and should link to this page, http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~holdridge/cemetery/forkshoals/forkshoals.html On my live updated website, the album page still looks like this, without the label and link. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~holdridge/albums/photoalbum.html But the Fork Shoals Cemetery page did update. But sometimes, you have to force PCs and websites to do what you want. For example, Filezilla on my sites SAYS it deletes files/folders from RW/freepages. But something with RW still keeps old stuff. File Manager is more direct to RW-- it seems to accept "delete" better from there. I dunno why. I just found it easier to work around the issue than keep banging my head against the wall trying to figure it out.

    3. Oops, on my comment: No and yes. It WILL completely delete one whole FOLDER at once.. Be careful in choosing -- it really does delete in one second. I meant to include, you can delete files too, but that is one by one, by one, by one.... OMG so old fashioned... it's misery, but it works. Judy

    1. Re: [FreeHelp] Using Fileman help?
    2. JFlorian via
    3. Lonnie Fink asked: Can one use fileman to upload a whole folder with many files within it at one operation. No. But, it is better than never uploading anything because ftp programs fail. Or do,they have to be uploaded one at a time? Not exactly "one at a time". At the bottom, left, make sure to change the number of files. HOWEVER, RW File Manager is like inviting a 90-yr old Auntie to a Thanksgiving feast-- if you pile her plate full, she might not digest it well. But if you give her smaller amounts, she'll be able to chew it over. So limit how many big-big files you upload at once. You can do perhaps 10-12 small files at once. Can one use fileman to delete many files or all the files on server at once or only one at a time? No and yes. It WILL completely delete one whole FOLDER at once.. Be careful in choosing -- it really does delete in one second. I have a local copy in one folder, can I delete all the files using fileman on the server,... Yes, by folders... and by individual files. then just upload the whole local folder? NO. See above. The BEST thing to do to learn about File Manager is to create a local copy of 1 folder, say "test" and one file page called "test_fm.html". Then practice. If you create a File Manager FOLDER (directory), you MUST make sure what directory (folder) you are "in". So let's say you make "test" folder (dir), then click on it to open it. NOW upload "test.fm" page. OR, upload test_fm.htm/l without opening any user-created folder-- that puts it under your main site, like where your index.htm/l page will go. After uploading your test_fm.htm page to the main site, click the radio button next to it. Go down and click Delete file. Confirm delete. After uploading the test FOLDER/Dir, with your test page inside, you can do delete one of two ways-- 1. Open the folder, highlight the FILE (radio button), go down and click delete FILE. or 2. To get rid of the test folder and ALL pages inside, click on the radio button next to the closed test folder-- go down and click delete of a sub-Directory. I suggest practicing with your test Dir/Folder and your test_fm.html file, learning how to make a folder, sub-folders, page in folder, and page under the main directory. I practiced until I was utterly bored and frustrated. THEN, try deleting an unimportant file, and reupload just that one unimportant file. Once you get comfortable with File Manager, try blasting away a directory that contains a small number of files...recreate the directory...open it...reupload the files for that folder. I know it sounds like a pain. It is. But I did it with a large site. ALSO, you could try setting up Filezilla. Try uploading the test_fm.html file using Filezilla. If that works, go back to file manager, delete a whole folder. Go to Filezilla and upload that folder. Repeat for each folder. OR delete everything EXCEPT your index.html file using file manager, and go to Filezilla to reupload the whole site (or upload it in parts). I've done all these methods. I most prefer deleting with File Manager, and uploading with Filezilla. I got scared, so I've done it in "parts". But after doing it so much, I do the whole thing on FM (except deleting the index file) and let Filezilla work on uploading it all, overwriting the index file. Judy

    3. Mailmerge forms have not been working for several months, since the Captcha script was broken. Previously, that script was not recognizing a correct entry and would simply return to the Captcha entry form. Something was changed since the Captcha entry is no longer even displayed and attempting to submit produces an error page, but the HelpDesk has told us they do not have a time frame as to when it will be fixed. 3. Hi Vivian, I know it is old fashioned but Freepages FileManager will at least let you upload directly. Sometimes, computers are a pain..one little thing wrong takes a zillion hours to troubleshoot. So I try to "trick" the computers to do what I want, meaning, give it something it understands and see if it works. So uploading your index.htm/l file via File Manager should make it visible that you have a page on a website. If that works, then, try uploading one folder and check it on the web. If that works, try your ftp program. If the program fails, go back to File Manager and upload the rest. Judy
