Not sure if it will work or not as a fp include since the favicon statement goes in the head section. Remember FP only adds what is in between the opening and closing body tag. I add it as part of the DWT which is only available for fp2003 and EW. I thought I remembered someone inserting it using a ssi. pat -----Original Message----- From: JFlorian [mailto:cageycat@gmail.com] Sent: Wednesday, August 1, 2018 12:52 AM To: LIST_freepages-help@rootsweb.com <freepages-help@rootsweb.com> Subject: [FreeHelp]favicon I was wondering, can a favicon sit in a Frontpage _include and still work the same? I'm using latest FileZilla version 3.35.1. I do use SFTP, which I didn't specify before. I called it FTP as a generic name, in the same way that you may refer just to HTML when in fact you mean HTML5, for instance. In FileZilla > File > Site Manager > General, under "Protocol" there is a pull down menu where you can choose the option SFTP. You don't need to type anything in the "Host" box before the host name. Anyway, I've tried typing both, sftp://... and SFTP://... before sitesuser.rootsweb.com and I get the same error: Status: Connecting to sitesuser.rootsweb.com... Response: fzSftp started, protocol_version=8 Command: open "herediasittig@sitesuser.rootsweb.com" 22 Command: Pass: ************* Error: Authentication failed. Error: Critical error: Could not connect to server I hope someone can figure out what is not working. Thanks, Jorge Heredia
Henrik, I think you are right. It's not us who are wrong it's rootsweb's side. Every password I have changed (3 now) is not accepted. Caps or not with SFTP makes no difference. I've posted a note in to Filezilla's forum, and the immediate answer from one of their respondents is to go back to the server's admin. So over to Rootsweb I'd say. If any other webmaster preceded you, that's what that means. Just put that info in on the bottom of the form. If this is not the problem, ask Anne.
I was wondering, can a favicon sit in a Frontpage _include and still work the same? Or does it have to be on every page? On thousands of pages, it becomes a nuisance on the webmaster's side (like now with sorting out RW real broken links, from just unhinged not-really-broken links). The 2 are different. However, fortunately, both Pat A and Pat G are on both lists. And Anne (staff) is on the RW list.

Hi Jorge, Did you read Walter's post? He said that sftp did NOT work in FileZilla but SFTP did work. Also, ftp is not permitted, you can only use sftp or SFTP. Plain ftp has minimal security, which is why it is no longer permitted. If SFTP does not work in your FileZilla, you may need to compare versions of FileZilla, in case different versions are picky about whether to use sftp or SFTP. The process of obtaining a new password was successful! However, be aware that the link to move to the next webpage, where you will "enter your desired PW", needs to have a period "." after useraccount. and before .rootsweb.com. (Only 1 period: useraccount.rootsweb.com) Then, when I entered my information into FileZilla, sftp didn't work, but SFTP did. Entering all caps worked. (SFTP://sites.....) Now I can breath again. Day after day I keep trying and trying and cannot connect with FileZilla. I've got ocassionally some other errors but this is the most frequent error log: Status: Connecting to sitesuser.rootsweb.com... Response: fzSftp started, protocol_version=8 Command: open "herediasittig@sitesuser.rootsweb.com" 22 Command: Pass: ************* Error: Authentication failed. Error: Critical error: Could not connect to server I have tried changing my password several times. Last time I was very careful to copy and paste the same password when I changed it and when I entered it to FileZilla. So it's is not that I entered the wrong password. I've sent a message before to Ann Mitchell, I haven't got any personal answerbut at least she's aware of this problem. I keep reading these bulletins and don't find an answer to my problem. I see that there are more people with similar problems, and I also understand that Rootsweb has so much to do in order to bring back all the web pages that still many things remain to be fixed on the way. I just want to find the solution to this problem ans hope someone has an idea that finally makes FTP connecting with FileZilla work. Thanks, Jorge Heredia
While we are still bringing hosted websites back online you can now download the contents of what was on your site for you to use. The contents of your site were zipped up on or around July 25, 2018. First, go to https://useraccount.rootsweb.com/websites/getDownloadLinks and enter the email that you believe your hosted website was under. You will receive an email with text that looks like: This email address was used to request the downloadable links for one or more administrator accounts for a website hosted at Rootsweb. If you did not make this request, you may safely ignore this message. Below are links that you can use to download your websites for accounts linked to this email address: Download web site link: vasmyth https://acom-rootsweb-sites.s3.amazonaws.com/www/vasmyth.zip?AWSAccessKeyId= <stuffremoved> Download web site link: vabedfor {We are still processing this website. Try again in a week or two.} These links will expire in 6 months. Sincerely, the Rootsweb Team If there is a link, you may download by clicking on the link. If not, we are still processing. We have processed all sites that have a size of 10G or less. The rest we are working on. Your RootsWeb Team
Carol, I had the engineers check the logs. It is a bad password. Please get the reset link again and change your password. And then reconnect. At 4:18PM EDT, I just confirmed I can connect using BOTH Filezilla and my preferred program, WS_ftp Pro. So I have to assume the parameters you are entering are not correct in some respect. One of the early errors that users committed was entering the host name incorrectly, i.e. siteuser.rootsweb.com or siteusers.rootsweb.com instead of the correct one: sitesuser.rootsweb.com Please go to sites.rootsweb.com/~pasher/ and review the instructions for uploading with various FTP clients posted there. If you still can not connect, copy the entire (failed) connection log and post it here so we can try to identify the error. Pat A.
