John How does this grab you? 1841B2-R-0900 up to 1841B2-R-0929 rename to: 1841B2-S-0900 up to 1841B2-S-0929 should resolve the problem. This will bring the scans into correct sequence both numerically by file name and alphabetically by scan surname content. I'm genuinely bad at reading hand-written scans however when you say "1841B2-S-0726 to 1841B2-S-0899 inclusive are shown on the download site as having an S in their name when they all contain surnames beginning with R" is perhaps not quite correct. To me it looks as if the surnames begin with "S" rather than "R". If you could have another check and let me know if you agree/disagree with my suggested rename of scans 0900 to 0929 I will put a task on the system to have them changed Allan Raymond -----Original Message----- From: John Slann <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: 03 December 2004 16:52 Subject: A mystery about scans in 1841/Births/June/UKD-02/M-Z Please could I report a mystery with this group of scans? The sequence of scans on the site suggest a block of missing scans are between 1841B2-R-0714.tif to 1841B2-R-0900.tif , both of which are present. 1841B2-R-0714 ends with Catherine Ryton, from Camberwell and 1841B2-R-0900 starts with Sophia Smithhurst who hailed from Leicester. However they are not missing because lower down when we get to 1841B2-R-0929.tif it is followed immediately by 1841B2-RS-0715-blank.tif . 1841B2-R-0929 ends up with someone whose name appears to be Squires and 1841B2-RS-0715 is a blank. As 0714 ended with Catherine Ryton this looks right And lower down again we come to 1841B2-S-0899.tif which is followed immediately by 1841B2-S-0930.tif . 0899 has an indecipherable bottom line and the penultimate on is not much better, but the one before that is Sophia Smithers from Dorchester which looks consistent with 1841B2-R-0900 which started Sophia Smithhurst. 1841B2-S-0930 has a William Burgess Squires as it's first line, which is consistent with 1841B2-R-0929 ended up with another Squires This means that scans 1841B2-R-0900 to 1841B2-R-0915 inclusive should have an initial S in the name. Similarly 1841B2-S-0726 to 1841B2-S-0899 inclusive are shown on the download site as having an S in their name when they all contain surnames beginning with R. Pending a ruling from the gurus I am not allocating any of the affected scans and am leaving a gap and recommencing with 1841B2-S-0930.tif Your advice would be appreciated I do hope I am not going to be taken to task for not providing enough detail (vbg) John
