Syndicate coordinators are reminded of http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/SelfConfirmed.html <http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/SelfConfirmed.html> which contains a list of files which are showing in the database as having entries that are double keyed but the double keying appears to have been done by the same transcriber. This listing has been enhanced for the latest update to include the syndicate name(s) and the total number of entries in the file. Please note that because of the length of some syndicate names and the occurrence of multiple syndicate membership, the syndicate name is only given for the first file of each user. It would appear that a file can appear in this list for a number of reasons: 1) Transcriber has made changes/corrections and uploaded the file under a different name 2) A ONENAME or RANDOM transcriber has included the same entry more than once 3) A RANDOM transcriber has included entries without volume or page (i.e. with ? in both volume and page) 4) Files have been amalgamated into one file but the original files not deleted 5) Transcriber accidently transcribed the same entry twice 6) Transcriber did the same page twice (but gave it a different filename) Sometimes the list contains files that are correct and these can be excluded from the list. I have done this for a number of files, covering the following cases: 1) A large number of entries only partially readable 2) A number of Unknown,Male deaths registered at the same time (presumably a disaster) Would coordinators please check the list and take appropriate corrective action. If a file is correct and should be excluded from the list please let me know. Thank you Barrie
This may be a case of teaching grandmother to suck eggs, but to make sense of what the pairs of files in the 'Self Confirmed' list contain it may be useful to follow the links to the files and copy the contents to check what the differences are between them. There are a number of ways of doing this, but a relatively cheap download which does the job quickly and efficiently is EditPad Pro from http://www.editpadpro.com/ . It has a function which allows you to compare two versions of a text file and highlights in different colours versions of the same line which differ between versions. This way it is not to hard to see whether one file is a corrected or extended version of another, and which one should be deleted. I also use it when new transcribers send me a second, corrected version of a file to see to what extent they followed the advice given when I reviewed the first version. Hi Barrie, My Syndicate is working on those pages against its name and it appears that the main cause is duplicated scans. Is there a rule that should be followed when a scan is a duplicate of the previous one?
