    1. Re: How to View TIF/TIFF files in XP
    2. Mary Trevan
    3. Hi Ian I stand corrected! I stopped reading when I reached the sentence "You can however definitely download the scans to disc by right-clicking on the page link and selecting "Save Target As"." because my browser does not get as far as this. Instead of a page link with a "Save Taregt As" option or a pop-up window with a choice of Open or Save, all I get is a window with an icon that usually represents a broken link. You didn't say where you found Alternatiff - if it's quick and easy I might install it. Regards Mary ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ian Brooke" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, June 30, 2004 12:46 AM Subject: Re: How to View TIF/TIFF files in XP > Hi Mary, > What you say here is not entirely correct. It *is* possible to open a scan in IE 6 under XP Pro via the general public link IF you have the "Alternatiff" scan viewer that I mentioned in my previous email. Having opened it on screen it is also then possible to save it to disc. > Ian > > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Mary Trevan > To: [email protected] > Sent: Tuesday, June 29, 2004 2:26 PM > Subject: Re: How to View TIF/TIFF files in XP > > > Sorry Ian, but like several other helpful people on this list who have been > praising Irfanview, you've got hold of the wrong end of the stick. > > The new route available to the general public which uses page > http://images.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/choose.pl does *not* provide any way of > downloading the image. > > This does *not* affect the existing mechanism for transcribers, just the > mechanism for the general public to view the scans using the new button on > the home page.
