Keith The 12 month period shown in http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/delete_submitterID.html was an arbitrary figure which I decided in conjunction with Virginia Gretton would give ample time for a volunteer to have uploaded any files to FreeBMD. Currently I have deleted 3679 volunteers from the database since 6 September 2001 without any problems (OK, perhaps a small number which could can be counted on half of one hand). Currently we have 821 volunteers with zero entries, which compares with the 900 on 6 April 2003. In the last 5 days I've deleted 66 volunteers using the 12 month period rule. I'm willing to accept from any Co-ordinator details of their volunteers who for whatever reason have recently joined FreeBMD but find that transcribing isn't quite to their taste. In these circumstances I will be happy to remove the volunteer from the database regardless of them not meeting the 12 month period. Whilst we could reduce the time interval to less than 12 months this will most likely lead to volunteers being deleted before they have had opportunity to upload any files. I can't quite see how reducing the period to less than 12 months will give a truer indication of the number of volunteers working on the project since not all volunteers who have uploaded records (small or large) are still active. As a separate issue I can't fathom out why your personal listing does not correspond with that held by FreeBMD, I'm extremely confident that the information on FreeBMD is correct (????). Any light you can shed on this would be helpful in deciding whether there is a need to reduce the deletion period to less than 12 months?
