In order to improve the service that FreeBMD offers, we will shortly be upgrading FreeBMD from four to six servers. The additional servers will be used exclusively to store scanned images, releasing much needed disk space on the database servers. This move will mean changing the URL that transcribers use to download scans, from http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/GUS/ to http://images.freebmd.org.uk/GUS/ If your transcribers navigate to the scans via the FreeBMD site, you need take no action. If you provide links from your own syndicate site, you will need to update your links at an appropriate time. At present, it is intended that the new image servers will go live at 12:00 GMT on Monday 28th June, and you should make no changes before then. The current image directories will be retained until Monday 5th July to allow for a smooth transition, and will then be deleted.
