Hi Jeff: I like your list of revised district names. I believe that I _was_ suggesting we provide modified pick lists for transcribers, not just new ones, whenever they move to a different quarter. It's easier to change a complete file than to ask each transcriber to add modified names as they come across them. This should reduce the "error rate" quite a bit. Coordinators just need to know ahead of time what the new list should contain. Hi Peter I try to imagine explaining to some of my transcribers how to load a new and different picklist into the correct folder to be picked up by WinBMD. The mind boggles a bit. Worth talking to Ian Brooke about how to do it, maybe. But I still think the TWYS approach, perhaps indicating what you are likely to find as district names and how to add them to your personal picklist, is probably best. On Mary's point, this list came out of a page-range list built from 57 transcription files, a bit under 20% of the quarter in question, but I suspect it could be done on a lot less. The page ranges would not be so useful, but a list of non-standard districts probably would be. Jeff --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Version: 6.0.699 / Virus Database: 456 - Release Date: 04/06/2004
Hi Peter Catch-22 - until a large enough number of transcriptions have been done there is no knowing ahead of time what should be on the list! And in case there is any doubt, I have nothing against picklists - just against those transcribers who would rather pick something from the list than appreciating that they should be still typing what they see for the district name and volume number rather than adding the TWYS variants to their own picklists an using them. I know that St Olave vs St Olave Bermondsey vs St Olave Southwark has been given the most prominence on the lists, but there are more than a handful of cases that I've come across where transcribers are happy to pick Barnsley from the list when they should be typing something like B*y since looking at the scans show that they have picked Barnsley for entries that actually read Burnley or Bury!
