>It's not good enough for it to be left up in the air by asking volunteers to ask their Co-ordinator. Really! I have found that after new transcribers give a cursory glance at instructions on FreeBMD, they turn to their coordinators for instruction on practically everything, even including configuring their computers and more personal, human subjects. How arrogant of me to think that I could advise my transcribers! Perhaps, following the current trend towards automation at FreeBMD, we could just get rid of the human element entirely and have a program automatically assign scans and let the transcribers get along as best they can with the "Transcribers Database"? How arrogant of me to think that I could advise my > transcribers! Good lord, is it really the time of year for a mountain to be made out of a molehill already. I didn't see anything in what Allan wrote that suggested that there was anything wrong whatsoever with transcribers talking to their co-ord to ask for help and co-ords giving such advice. Indeed, I know that Allan and I both refer loads of requests for advice that come through to us to the relevant co- ordinator. What Allan did say, and I agree with him on this, is that it isn't good enough for the help and advice pages on the site to fail to give help and advice. Firstly because some people prefer to look things up themselves, and secondly because some co-ordinators may not be sure of all the answers themselves. It is right that the FreeBMD help pages give advice on the subject of double page scans, and it is right that the advice given should take account of the fact that the instructions for such scans varies according to your syndicate. -- Dave Mayall ---------------------------------------------- This mail sent through http://www.ukonline.net
