The problem is that you cannot choose the encoding. The data as displayed by show-file is ALWAYS windows-1152, regardless of what is in the headers when you download it, or what system you are going to edit it with. The block on copying has been put in place because it isn't an appropriate way to copy files from the server. Finding ways of getting round the block doesn't actually solve anything. Hi, Isn't the problem which program the file is saved to the issue? If saved to Windows NotePad surely it will be OK.
