It is indeed unfortunate that this action has had to be taken and I myself also find it very inconvenient. However, as Dave has explained, copying text from Show File will introduce errors in the transcriptions - and these errors are subtle and difficult to detect, the worst kind. I have introduced a new facility accessed via this link <http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/coord-show-file.pl> which enables a coordinator login to Show File. Using this facility, if you display the contents of a file that is marked as being transcribed for a syndicate of which you are coordinator there will be a download button at the end of the listing. There is also a warning to edit the file with the appropriate software (as happens when transcribers download their files). At the moment this facility is fairly rudimentary - I want to enhance it so that the encoding can be specified. There may also be some problems with files not being marked as being transcribed by a particular syndicate - if this arises please let me know. Thank you for taking the trouble to do this, Barrie. I've just used the link, though, and am not seeing any Download button or warning; perhaps the page is still being worked on? I tried in both Firefox 3.6.3 and IE8. >There is also a warning to edit the file with the >appropriate software (as happens when transcribers download their files). Does this mean transcribers should see a warning about editing when they click to download from File Management? I'm not seeing one here either. Could I also ask about "appropriate software", please? I know that when checking a page with BMDVerify, some of my team use Notepad to make quick corrections, rather than opening up WinBMD. Is this okay? -- Jackie Reynolds Barrie wrote on Tue, 13 Apr 2010: >It is indeed unfortunate that this action has had to be taken and I >myself also find it very inconvenient.
