    3. Clive You transcribe it as one entry Lowthorpe Harry McCarthy Murphy Epsom The spouses surname is McCarthy Murphy with NO requirement to add a #COMMENT. Even if you were to add an explanation it would be #THEORY rather than a #COMMENT (ref: http://www.freebmd.org.uk/vol_faq.html#6af ) Rather "posh" people sometimes have double barreled surnames without an hyphen, apparently Prime Minister David Lloyd George, the composer Ralph Vaughan Williams and the actress Helena Bonham Carter are examples. Allan Raymond ----- Original Message ----- From: ESSERY, Clive G To: FREEBMD-SYNDICATES@rootsweb.com Sent: Friday, February 19, 2010 1:31 PM Subject: Transcription of spouse with two names but no OR One of my transcribers recently asked me about a line on Page 37 of the range K-Z of the 1933 March Quarter marriages. The spouse name has two names but no hyphen or "OR" between the two names. I have suggested that they enter it as a single record (ie not two copies as we would do with an OR in the name) with the comment as follows: Lowthorpe Harry McCarthy Murphy Epsom #COMMENT,This line appears to have an OR missing between McCarthy and Murphy - if so it should be described as two entries but with the way it is typed we have transcribed it as a single entry. Would anyone like to comment on whether this is the correct thing to do under these circumstances or not? Many thanks, Clive Essery
