Is there a way of recovering individual files from the previous database? I have discovered that one of my transcribers has lost 40 lines from a file, in a change made on 7th November, I assume in response to a correction request that went wrong. I found out why we had lost 40 from the count of records in a long-completed quarter since last update by doing Upload Reports on the quarter in question both on the current and previous databases, then with an Excel formula calculating the change in numbers of records in the same files in the two versions. Using Show File I can only find the latest (rather shortened) version. If someone with better access can recover the old version I will happily advise the submitter ID and filename in question. The quarter is 1853M4. Jeff

As far as I can see they have been transcribed correctly. Although it looks like a spouse name that would be an assumption on our part. I see no point in making them aliases and will get them removed from the listing. The problem files for the Ian Brooke syndicate are from 1910 marriages. The problem arises because there are later hand written entries which include alternate name for the spouse. Generally the index for 1910 marriages does not include the name of the spouse. I have asked several times what to do with these files - and never had an answer. They pages are 1910M3R0774 1910M3S0831 1910M4B0136 Christopher Richards Barrie wrote: > The attachment was stripped off my first message on this subject, so > here it is in-line: > > As part of the ongoing Quality Assurance programme for FreeBMD we > analyse all transcription files for potential errors. The attachment was stripped off my first message on this subject, so here it is in-line: As part of the ongoing Quality Assurance programme for FreeBMD we analyse all transcription files for potential errors. One of these potential errors is the transcription of entries containing aliases as a single entry, whereas, as described in http://www.freebmd.org.uk/vol_faq.html#6u, they need to be transcribed as two entries with a comment covering both. Files that you have transcribed have been identified as potentially having such errors. Please would you check http://www.freebmd.org.uk/SuspectFilesAlias.html, scrolling down to your transcriber id, for the files that have been identified. If the files have been identified incorrectly (i.e. the potential alias entry/entries are not actually aliases) please let me know and I will get the file(s) removed from the listing. For files that have been correctly identified please may we request that you make the necessary amendments and upload the amended file. Where there are a large number of files involved we appreciate that it might take some time to implement the amendments and in such cases we are happy for the amendments to be made over a period of time. If for any reason you do not wish to make the amendments necessary please contact me and I will arrange for the amendments to be made for you. Thanking you in anticipation for your co-operation in this excercise Barrie Archer FreeBMD Quality Assurance Coordinator This is the email message that will be sent to transcribers with more than 5 entries in the Suspect Files Alias listing unless syndicates opt out by contacting me. Hi All One of my transcribers has returned after a few years break with a Mac Computer and want to know how to verify with Mac her data file Thanks Debz
Hello I was wondering if you could help, I have been trying, unsuccessfully, to contact Peter M Jones of the Red Rose Syndicate regarding a new allocation. Regards Steve Hughes
It is over a year ago that we enhanced the Suspect Files listing to include files that appeared to have aliases that had not been transcribed as two entries. Because there were so many such files we did not include the "alias" files in the main Suspect Files <http://www.freebmd.org.uk/SuspectFiles.html> listing because the other errors it was reporting would have been drowned out; instead we had a separate listing <http://www.freebmd.org.uk/SuspectFilesAlias.html>. Last November there were about 2400 alias files being reported (and about 200 other files). Today there are about 900 alias files being reported (and about 100 other files). Whilst this is obviously a significant improvement, and represents hard work on the part of coordinators and transcribers, we still need to reduce it further before we can incorporate the alias files in the main listing. Because, although I have made several requests, the rate at which the alias files are being reduced has tailed off (a reduction of only 50 over the last month) I am going to implement a more proactive strategy. Unless coordinators *specifically request* that their syndicate is *excluded*, I shall be contacting those transcribers with more than 5 alias files *directly* requesting that they amend the files concerned. If transcribers are uncontactable, I will enquire of coordinators whether they want me to make the necessary amendments or whether they will do so. Attached is the text of what I will send to transcribers. So, coordinators who have transcribers with more than 5 files in the Suspect Files Alias <http://www.freebmd.org.uk/SuspectFilesAlias.html> listing should reply to this email (before 30th November) if they do *not* want me to contact such transcribers. Regards Barrie Archer FreeBMD Quality Assurance Coordinator

Alan, There are only 17 files listed and they are of the format 'or/alias' with regard to the surnames. I believe this constitutes a genuine reason, so I will send details to synd-coord@freebmd.org.uk . Unless you advise otherwise. Either I or Kevin will deal with such requests. When I have checked their last uploads I have found that the majority have not uploaded anything since 2008. Now I know that when a transcriber states they no longer have an interest in Freebmd or are unable to be contacted that their coordinator can request transfer of ownership to carry out amendments as needed. I don't want to over burden the system and ask for transfer of ownership of all the members files at once. So do I ask for transfer of ownership in stages, i.e. maybe two at a time. Any help appreciated. This is a message for the Chris M syndicate coordinator. Joyfarrance has uploaded a file which I think has the wrong name. It has been uploaded as 1923M3K0248 and should I think have been 1932M3K0248. The email address I have for her has bounced so please will you contact her to get it corrected.
