    3. Hi Ian Thanks for your reply, my comments on yours below are as follows ;- 1) Yes It is a page number that I was entering as it would then be reproduced in the filename so that it would be unique. I'm also entering the page number in the batch number field. I'm a little confused here as it seems to me that one of the fields is superfluous. 2) My mistake here, I did not realise that when you tab out the fields that the data was then capitalised, so this is ok. 3) I have just discovered that I also get an illegal operation if I select save. regards eddie [email protected] South coast of Hampshire, England ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ian Brooke" <[email protected]> To: "FreeBMD Discuss-List" <[email protected]>; "eddie allen" <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, August 19, 2001 5:41 PM Subject: Re: winbmd help > Hi Eddie, > Many thanks for your comments. 3. Hi Eddie and All, 1. There was a lot of confusion in the early days of WinBMD over page numbers/Fiche numbers/Film numbers etc etc. For a number of reasons there was a need to have a different value entered in the Page field than was shown on the +PAGE line and the decision was taken to have the Batch field as the page number for Fiche and Film. It's not a decision that I'm particularly happy about but having gone that route I don't think there is much we can do now (if we do then the headers will be wrong in those files already produced) although personally I would have liked to reverse it and have Page as always the Page number and leave Batch for the Fiche/Film number. The only problem that I can think of is that the Batch number is incremented by one when the menu item Start New Batch is selected but this could be fixed. It's not so much that there is a redundant field though - I still suspect there is a need to be able to enter a reference number for Fiche/Film although I'm unsure what that need is. In early version of WinBMD these fields used to rename themselves so that the top-right box was labelled "Fiche or Film Number" rather than "Page" and this may be worth re-introducing in the next version. Whatever we do - I think we should do something because the current situation can be confusing. 2. Yes - there is a difference here with SpeedBMD which capitalises immediately forcing it to be changed if it was really wanted in a different case. WinBMD allows you to enter it in mixed case which it doesn't change but then if you enter in all one case it will 'fix' it when you've finished in the field. 3. If you download the Upgrade on the website it should fix the problems with Cancel and Save in that the AutoSave reminder should not appear while there is another question outstanding.
