it may only be the case here in sunny ol England(!!!)......wolverhampton to be exact..... but to check fiches here it cost 60p for half an hour.... Having spent many an hour and pence in the archives centre i am much mire prepared to search on freeBMD and then go and check at a cost of 60p rather than go through years of fiches and crank up the charge.
