I transcribe scans of handwritten entries, and many are awful, so I use IrfanView to change the colour of the scan image to a darkish orange/brown which I find is much easier to decipher, and seems to prevent eye strain. If the scan is not completely upright, I can straighten it which makes life easier when using BMDVerify.
