Regarding the first part of your query - you are quite correct , at present you then need to delete the "sender" address before sending the email to the list. Re. the second part of your query - of all the mailing lists to which I belong only the "FreeBMD mailing lists" have the particular trait of sending responses to both the "sender" and list. Of the non FreeBMD mailing lists I have not encountered the "mail-loop" scenario.
