    1. WinBMD Problem
    2. Ian Brooke
    3. Hi all, Typically, after 7 months of testing the program had been released for about 1 hour when someone found a problem! :o( Although in fairness to the testers this problem was only introduced in the past 2 weeks when we changed the filename format. This problem ONLY affects Film or Fiche users however for the moment could everyone please hold off downloading the program. There will be a revised version on the website tomorrow which will fix this problem and I will send another email when that is ready. People who have already downloaded and installed will be able to download an upgrade. To describe the problem:- With Fiche or Film the Batch number becomes the first +PAGE line. If this is entered as (say) 1234 then the first line will correctly show +PAGE,1234. However, if the file is saved an then re-loaded the line will have changed showing a different page number and a further save will go to a new filename. The actual file itself remains unchanged and is in fact still correct and will upload correctly. Very sorry about this. Ian

    3. Hi All, I'm pleased to announce that WinBMD is finally released and available for use by anyone who prefers a Windows based transcription program. It is hoped that a link will soon be available from the FreeBMD site but in the meantime WinBMD can be downloaded from http://winbmd.rmhh.co.uk Important Note:- This is version 2.0.0 of WinBMD. There are a number of people who are currently using earlier versions of the program - EVERYONE is recommended to upgrade to version 2. There are a significant number of changes in this version, including a new filename format and some important bug fixes - please do not continue to use your old versions - upgrade now. For those people who already have a version of WinBMD installed there is an upgrade option available on the download site which will download version 2 directly to their WinBMD folder replacing the program file that is their already. Regards Ian

    3. A minor suggestion for an amendment to the File Management page for transcribers. At the foot there is an option to return to the FreeBMD Main Page. I wonder how useful that is. I feel it would be more helpful to change the link to the Transcriber's Page instead, since I am more like to use one of the extensive list of links on that page (which includes Searc) rather than the Main Page options. After all we should not need 'Information' or 'Join FreeBMD' should we? 3. Hi Teri Just out of interest a similar discussion has taken place on the FreeBMD-Syndicate list within the last day or so. I'll leave Ian to respond to your actual query, but it may be worthwhile you subscribing to the Syndicates mailing list if you haven't done so already. The Syndicates list is primarily for Syndicate co-ordinators and looking through my emails there have been quite a lot of discussions on WinBMD which as a co-ordinator you may have found useful. 3. I was thinking more about those who have said they do not want to be involve any further. I would include those who are having a rest as still active. That said it was only a suggestion - I would be more interested in having everyone in alpha (surname) order. Hi Graham, *Many* of my syndicate members seem to jump back and forth between being active and inactive - sometimes a few months in each state, sometimes a few weeks. 3. Following on from Gypsy Teri's comments. I agree that listing the current syndicate in alphabetical order would make life much easier. I may be wrong but it looks as though it is sorted in ID order. I also suggested recently, but it does not seem to have gone to the list, that this box be split in to active and inactive members. Teri, you must have a very slow connection, I could add or delete my whole syndicate (~80 members) in 3 hours. Tony McHugh, 1864Births.

I just wondered why I got thrown out 3 times - now I know ;) I seem to have a problem with that whole page. To add 4 new people can take me at least half an hour as it's the slowest working page on FreeBMD for me! Never mind, I can live with it. If you want to change something, how about making that horrible little box where all my transcribers names are a bit bigger and that the names list in alphabetical order...please? 3. Another co-ordinator was having problems because he had his cookies disabled (through choice), I did mention to the team on 7 August for some advice. I am not happy about splitting into active and inactive volunteers, if I am searching for somebody I wouldn't wish to look in two lists.
