Hello, I have a question about official procedure. How are wartime records handled, please? I know a relative was killed in 1915 in France and that his next of kin was informed here in our village, but there is no record of the death on FreeBMD. Did the MoD, or the War Office, or whatever it was called register the deaths somewhere? Or was that left to the next of kin? I know from personal experience that not all service personnel listed a next of kin - I didn't when I joined the RAF in 1970. I was blown up in Northern Ireland and wounded in the Falklands. If I had died from my injuries, would there have been any registration of my death? Or would it have been left to the next of kin that I didn't have?
