    1. Transcribing using EXCEL

    3. Since I no longer have access to a WINDOWS based machine, I am now using EXCEL to transcribe the data. The problem I am having is with the header details. I can copy the details from a previous file and amend accordingly, which is fine. But I was wondering is there a way you can enter the HEADER DATA into EXCEL. Then save as a CSV FILE for upload to FreeBMD. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Keith

    3. Keith, Enter each field into a separate cell then save the file as type .csv. This applies to the header as well, so for example +INFO freebmd@myarcher.net <mailto:freebmd@myarcher.net> password SEQUENCED BIRTHS cp850 # 99 B Archer uk 37B10001.SCA 02/05/01 Y A # +S 1837 Mar UKC-20OCT2000-I-6 16/05/01 +PAGE 1 I do not understand, however, what the problem is you are encountering. I got the above by doing as you did and opening an existing transcription file as a spreadsheet. You can upload a csv file using File Management <http://www2.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/bmd-files.pl> (File Management does not care about the extension of your browse file). There is also some help in the Transcribers' Knowledge Base <http://www.freebmd.org.uk/vol_faq.html#11>.
