Year dependency appears to be a bit patchy. A quick experiment shows that the situation is as Bill says - mother's name is capitalised in Births (certainly for 1954) but spouse's name is not capitalised in Marriages (for 1954). I am working on 1958 Births so the capitalisation is working OK for me. Carol has just changed from 1954 Marriages to 1954 Births which explains why she was puzzled. Phil
