    3. I'm assuming Kevin our Corrections Co-ordinator will give his own input. My own personal observations. 1. This discussion should have been raised on our DISCUSS list, please see Mailing Lists at: http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/lists.html and follow up queries should be directed to DISCUSS list. 2. The most common need for a correction is when the transcriptions doesn't accord with the information in the corresponding Index page. 3. If you check out our "Finding the spouse" at: http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/marriage-help.html (you'll can also get to this page when you carry out a search and access the various instructions at the bottom of the search result page) it mentions "However, you might fail to find the name of a spouse on the same page because FreeBMD is still in the process of transcribing that quarter of the index." I'm not sure what you mean by a folio, but your statement "Despite TWYS, this means that the folio has been mis-input" is a misrepresentation of volunteers efforts. If you can't find a matching number of married persons, it is more likely due to the entry not having yet been transcribed. 4. Telling a white lie is very unhelpful to our corrections process. Why not be honest and tell the truth. If you find an error in a transcription, then you specify your source which must be from the GRO Index (could be a scan on the FreeBMD site a fiche or even the original FRC book). On our corrections page we specifically mentions "Corrections based on the reference of the other party to a marriage or of spelling of name used for another event for the same person are NOT valid". My own personal observations, please check out the instructions on our Corrections page (the one which comes up when you wish to provide a correction to a search result) plus the other instructions at the bottom of the search result. These will aid you to submit a valid correction based on fact and not a white lie. Thought I would add my contribution to the note on corrections, for what its worth. The most common identified need for a correction seems to me to come to light when searching for a spouse of a known relative when looking up marriages. You find the marriage of your ancestor, then - as invited - you input the folio number to see who the others were on the same register page. Usually you come up with 4 - two of one sex (including your ancestor) and two of the other. You then know that you have a 50:50 chance of finding the spouse, and subsequent census returns will usually sort that out. However, I have had two occasions now where there have been only 3 entries! Despite TWYS, this means that the folio has been mis-input. A bit of searching can result in finding the correct person (on a page with 5 apparent entries!), but then there is the need to correct the folio number. When I input my source as "matching spouse from scan" (or something like that), it would not accept it. I ended up telling a 'white lie' and saying "FRC", which was accepted. Shouldn't there be an acceptable source which identifies this route for corrections? John Anderson
