Hi Bob: I was almost that 'brave person'. As it happens Karen and I are on the same team and only yesterday I was transcribing p. 355 of the (handwritten) 1862 June Deaths and came across two specimens of the weird surname Burnchinshaw, listed between Burchill and Burchmore. I thought of solving the out-of-sequence problem by transcribing it as Bur_chinshaw, but perhaps now, seeing Karen has come across the place where the clerk thought it ought to appear (assuming the first 'n' was really correct) I shall show it without the underscore but take your advise and put a #THEORY mark on the following line as you suggest. In the scans I am doing at the moment I have found several that have a persons name in for example as Jones or Smith. Am I doing right by entering the same information twice, but once in the name of Smith, and once in the name of Jones. I would appreciate some advice on this for future. This topic was dealt with on this list 13 and 14 September 2005 with the heading 'Alternative Spouse Surnames' which should be traceable in the list archives.
