The 'duff' files were not consecutive ones, I never knew which ones were going to be and the okay ones downloaded without any difficulty at all. We don't think it has anything whatsoever to do with AOL's Image compression function, as described on the Google page, because we did not and have not disabled ours and the downloads are being downloaded okay. In fact since February this year and the batch of intermittent 'duff' files from the 1856 set I have had no further difficulty in downloads. We think that some of the scanned images, especially in the 1856 set, were not scanned in the same way as the rest. Best wishes Malise
