    3. To add a little humour to the monotony of transcribing, I give you these entries from my transcriptions of marriages in the 1840s. EATWELL - John - registration district - HUNGERFORD OVEN - John " " - BAKEWELL CHERRY - Belly - handwritten entry. Later corrected to Betty. EDEVEAN - Putty - handwritten entry. Later corrected to Patty. And the almost unbelievable - PLANT - Lettice - registration district - LEEK! Did her parents know of the vegetable "lettuce"? Fortunately for Lettice, marriage saved her from going through life as a Lettice Plant. Evan Smith
