    3. As a fairly new transcriber, I too had "problems" with Districts, not least that in 1903 (part of my patch) many the districts had different names from those in WinBMD and of course, being an innocent, I dropped straight in taking WinBMD as gospel and forgetting "TWYS". I got over this and added the new district but was left with the old ones as well which could not be deleted. In exploring the files which are downloaded with WinBMD I discovered a couple files which I was able to reuse. WinBMD_A_Districts.txt gives a list of Districts as they are. Any updating I have done whilst transcribing is stored in a different file, WinBMD_Supp_Districts.txt. It is these later districts that can be edited or deleted when using WinBMD (they are marked with an * ). Open WinBMD_A_Districts.txt, select all and cut makes this file an empty file when saved. Opening WinBMD_Supp_Districts.txt and pasting enters all those districts into this file. A consequence is that all the districts are now marked with an * and can be edited or deleted. Now when I use WinBMD not only can I add a new district as it is typed, I can delete the original version so that the district list does not have "duplicates". Makes entry much easier and means my pick-list is tailored to the period I am transcribing. If at a later date I end up transcribing in a totally different period with different names for the district then i will redo the list so that is reflects the period. Going back to the original question about sorting the district list, I then opened my Supp District list using Excel using delimited and the , (comma) which produces a two column spreadsheet with district in the first column and the code in the second. Hope that helps. If I have inadvertently made a terrible booboo, would someone please tell me. Phil
