    3. Suddenly I have a mechanical problem with WinBMD and wonder if anyone can show me how to correct it. Starting a new page, I type in the first column but when I press the Tab key to go to the next column I am taken to the line below of the same column instead. So I have to use the "move Right" arrow instead. When I reach the end of the line and can't do this, I try the Line Space key but am again taken to the line below of the same column. I have tried to do this on two pages but the same thing happens. As it will take a long time to transcribe at this rate, I would be grateful for advice. Mildred Nasmith

If you a look on the Options menu, you'll see that the eighth entry is 'Vertical Tab F2' and will probably have a tick against it. Select it again (or press F2 again) and things should revert to normal. Regards John K.Eason (freeBMD@john-eason.co.uk)

    3. Press the f2 key which will alter it so that when you hit tab or enter key you will go right rather than down. 3. Hi Mildred, Lot's of others have already advised you how to get out of this by pressing F2, but can I suggest that you try transcribing in this mode ? I work like this all the time and think it's quicker ! What I do is work all the way done the page filling in the Surname column, then I save the file (press F3 and ignore the warning about incomplete lines), then work all the way done the Forenames column, and so on. I think it's easier and quicker to keep my head in Forename, District or Page mode etc. for a whole page, rather than constantly switching between them. Give it a try ! 3. People, May I just add a word of warning about transcribing by Column rather than row. If you do transcribe by row, can I please ask that you take particular care, and ensure that you always verify your page afterwards. As the corrections coordinator, I have come across a considerable number of pages where the fields of a particular row has the surname from one entry, the forenames from the row above, district/volume from the row below etc. If anyone does transcribe by Column, then please take particular care, and please ensure that you carefully verify your pages, as a simple mistake can cause MANY incorrect entries. I would always recommend that BMDVerify (Whichever way you transcribe) is used before uploading pages. It is very simple to use and with careful use can eliminate the vast majority of errors. Whichever way you transcribe, Keep up the good work. 3. I can't imagine anyone uploading files without double checking them. No matter how careful I think I've been, I've always found at least one error. BMDVerify is a great tool! This is a very important project & I would hate to think I sent someone on a wild goose chase because of an error I didn't catch & correct.
