As I was reading the letters on this subject I wondered how this would affect anybody searching for that name. The name to search for would be entered as "Mary Ann", not "Mary, Ann". How would the searcher be able to find the name he/she is looking for? Anthony Hood

As ever in such cases, the answer is; "How the search engine will treat a particular record is irrelevant. Type what you see in all cases, and leave the workings of the search engine to the programmers. In no circumstances should you amend your transcription to accommodate the way the search engine works" -- Dave Mayall
