In order to adhere to TWYS, within the file management section, I attempted to edit out the underscore. However, the editor will not save the file because the volume field does not contain a number. The Uncertain Character Format doesn't seem to cover this situation. Perhaps I should enter "*d" followed by a #COMMENT. Can anyone please advise me as to how I should deal with this record. Many thanks, John. 3. The FreeBMD overriding principle of Type What You See means that you should only accept the volume number that comes up from the picklist when you type in the district name if it agrees with what is showing on the scan image of the index page.If it does not agree, amend your transcription to show what is actually on the page. King's Norton district was actually in volume 6c up to December quarter 1912, then in 6d from March quarter 1913. Please look carefully, as John did, when entering districts and volumes. You will know that Allan Raymond has recently pointed out problems with Smethwick district from December quarter 1932, as it was really in volume 6b, but WinBMD has been offering 6n in the picklist.
