    3. Brian What's the basis for entering ?d. The definition of ? is that it is only used when it unambiguous that the source data is actually missing from a column. In this instance we have source data showing a letter d. Unless I'm misunderstanding the original question Uncertain Character Format _{0,1}d covers this situation? In order to adhere to TWYS, within the file management section, I attempted to edit out the underscore. However, the editor will not save the file because the volume field does not contain a number. The Uncertain Character Format doesn't seem to cover this situation. Perhaps I should enter "*d" followed by a #COMMENT. Can anyone please advise me as to how I should deal with this record. 3. Hello Allan, I made a mistake! The problem is that the number is missing not unreadable. There is no option that is totally correct to deal with the situation. _d is incorrect because there is no number ? is incorrect because there is a letter d. The system will not allow the file to be uploaded with just the letter d. The file has been uploaded with _d because there is some evidence that the number was there but got taken out. A comment has also be added to clarify the situation. 3. You could use _{0,1} to show that there may be 0 or 1 missing characters, but even that's not strictly accurate, as there could theoretically be more than 1 missing character.
