    3. I have an entry in 1932 Q2 Births - Page 224 - where there is no Christian name - do I leave the space blank or insert a Comment. Also I have a surname - Thompson - with the P crossed through. Sould I transcribe the amended name or the original with a comment. I have looked in TKB but have found nothing relevant. Regards, Jean. _________________________________________________________________ See the most popular videos on the web http://clk.atdmt.com/GBL/go/115454061/direct/01/

    3. If a field is empty or has a dash in it, follow Uncertain Character Format (UCF) rules and put in a question mark , ?. TKB 6aj http://www.freebmd.org.uk/vol_faq.html#6aj applies I assume you refer to the handwritten entry at foot of right column. TKB 6d http://www.freebmd.org.uk/vol_faq.html#6d applies to your second question. Put it in as Thomson , then #COMMENT handwritten amendment of original name Thompson There is a problem because the other change in that line , from 2018 to 2018a has to be commented on I suggest that you combine the comments as #COMMENT handwritten amendment of original name Thompson and of original page 2018 There could be a case for an extra example in 6(d) about what to do if a number is changed like this, from 2018 to 2018a - memo to writers of TKB Jeff ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jean Winfield" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, November 15, 2008 12:04 PM Subject: Transcribing. > > I have an entry in 1932 Q2 Births - Page 224 - where there is no Christian > name - do I leave the space blank or insert a Comment. > > Also I have a surname - Thompson - with the P crossed through. 3. Hi Jean For the blank forename I'd use a ? and perhaps also a Comment line (it's under Uncertain Character Format http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/beginhelp.shtml ) For the crossed through I'd transcribe the original and use a Comment again Regards Lesley ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jean Winfield" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, November 15, 2008 12:04 PM Subject: Transcribing. 3. Use Uncertain Character Format. Question mark is used for any field where there is no data present. http://www.freebmd.org.uk/vol_faq.html#6aj applies. Link in that source is to http://www.freebmd.org.uk/Format.shtml#ucf Jeff ----- Original Message ----- From: "Leslie Bush" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, November 16, 2008 9:33 PM Subject: Transcribing Deaths indexes post Q1 1969. > How are we to enter in WinBMD, the date of birth in deaths indexes after > q1 1969 where the index has no day or month or is otherwise incomplete? > > Les > FreeBMD-Admins mailing list - archive > http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/freebmd-admins > FreeBMD http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/ > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without > the quotes in the subject and the body of the message >
