    1. Problem with BMDVerify and Vista

    3. Hi everyone One of my transcribers, who normally uses XP, is abroad at the moment and using a laptop with Vista installed. He's just emailed me with an odd problem I don't remember hearing before: has anyone any ideas, please? He writes that WinBMD is working fine, but: >when I ran BMDverify, instead of the names I typed in, the orange bar >contains only symbols, so I don't know how to rectify the situation, >and so far cannot check my input. He's running the latest version of both programs. If necessary we can wait until he comes back to check and upload, but I'm intrigued and would be grateful for any clues. Thanks all, -- Nowl

    3. This could be because the font BMDVerify uses to match the scans is not installed on the computer, and the 'nearest alternative' the computer has selected is not alphabetic. He could try something like Word and look at the range of fonts installed, type in something like the top surname of the file he is transcribing, and see if he can match the 'symbols' with one of the installed fonts, to verify this. There is also advice in Word Help about obtaining extra fonts. If he is abroad and the laptop's 'home language' is not western European there may be a very limited range of suitable fonts. Has he tried the 'restore defaults' option? This is on the starter screen where you select the scan image, at the foot of the screen.
