I have just begun transcribing and am working on typed scans of 1932 births. On several pages I note there are handwritten additions where under the page number the note says "see Dec' 34" (or some other year.) WinBMD will not allow me to type the apostrophe after the D. How to handle this, please? Thanks for your help. Yvonne
Yvonne - such references normally come in the form "See Dec/34" - are you sure it is an apostrophe rather than a "/"? - would you like me to have a look at the scan? If so, can you send me the link as provided by Lesley? If you are really sure it's an apostrophe, a number of possibilities occur to me for your transcription: a. you could type "See Dec/34" and then add a #COMMENT line saying something like "Entry for page reads See Dec'34" - it is possible that WinBMD would allow an apostrophe against a comment line! b. you could type See Dec/34 and upload it like that into the data base, and then go into Manage Your Files, open up the file, and then correct it to an apostrophe. Do you know how to get into Manage Your Files? See the following link, and follow the instructions under File Management. http://www7.freebmd.org.uk/vindex.shtml If none of that helps, do get back to me. The easiest way is to type an apostrophe in the mother maiden name field, then cut and paste it into the page column. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Yvonne Courtine Sent: Tuesday, February 03, 2009 6:34 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Apostrophe I have just begun transcribing and am working on typed scans of 1932 births.
