I agree it is tiresome, but what I do is type both initials them press the left arrow key 3 times, back space and enter. That way you don't have to use the shift key. Hope that helps, Adrian Jervis ----Original Message---- From: [email protected] Date: 23/01/2009 10:09 To: <[email protected]> Subj: Illegal Spaces in Initials We are aware of the way 20thC typed scans have no spaces where there are 2 or more initials. My question as a mainly self taught, non-touch typist is whether there is a better way of typing , using WinBMD version 5.0.0, than this example: Smith, John C.J. the keys sequence is: c/stop/back-space/shift+J/stop/tab/enter (to tell WinBMD you don't want to add "C.J." as a new forename) Note that WinBMD automatically inserts a space after the first full stop and then cannot recognise the space-free set of initials as other than a full name. I find the procedure unnatural, having been instructed always to hit space after a full stop, and it destroys the transcription rhythm.
