I have traced Birth, Marriage and Death certificates for a number of my ancestors, and I'm very grateful to FreeBMD and it's volunteers for the huge amount of help this database has been to me. I have a number of certificates for ancestors and for "false leads" which I would be happy to scan and upload to the internet (if the person is deceased and the event is before, say 1909) for the use of other descendents or researchers. Is there a project or repository in existence to accommodate this? Thanks & Regards, Sarah Smith.
Hi Geoff You could try the following link www.ukbdm.corpex.com This is an BMD certificate exchange site. There is a small fee to pay I believe. Or you can advertise them on the Unwanted Certificate forum here http://www.british-genealogy.com/forums/ if you are signed up to them ( it's free if not...) Yes, there is such a place. Mark Charman has a site www.certificatesharing.com where I have sent my scanned certificates in hopes others may make use of them. Thanks, Carol - this new site looks interesting but I have pointed out to Mark that the private company promoted for purchase of certificates charges over three times the standard rate from the GRO. Perhaps not a problem for experienced researchers, but could prove a trap for the unwary. Regards Russell Subject: Re: Repository for Scanned Certificates? Yes, there is such a place. You can also add the details from each certificate to the FreeBMD database by adding a postem to the appropriate database entry. Hi Sarah I seem to recollect something like this run by Sussex Family History Society - when I was a member several years ago. Of course this was only for Sussex families and members only. I would guess that other FHS would do a similar thing. I haven't seen a generic site for collecting this type of information.
