Hello Without looking at the file I think you should type 3 lines. Wilson,John,Salford,XX #COMMENT(2) ENTRY SHOWS TYPED XX AND HAND-WRITTEN 477/S Wilson,John,Salford,477/S Maurice ======================================== Message Received: Oct 27 2011, 11:57 PM From: "Evan Biggs" To: FREEBMD-ADMINS@rootsweb.com Cc: Subject: Transcribing query Good Day Administrator. I have just transcribed and uploaded some entries for births 1846, March quarter. I have been given a message generated by the computer that an unusual entry was seen. The entry was and clearly the last set of digits is the "unusual" part. The first symbol on the original is unclear, hence the brackets. My query is, should I leave the entry as it is or should I add some comment in the downloaded file? If so, what? Not quite correct. An important part of the query from Evan is missing from your copy of his email. Evan mentioned he had transcribed the entry as: Wilson,John,Salford,XX,[S5]477/S In other words he transcribed the page number as [S5]477/S since he couldn't make out the character in front of 477/S, which is a correct approach. Your suggestion means the file wont be able to be uploaded since the two lines Wilson,John,Salford,XX and Wilson,John,Salford,477/S only contains only four fields as opposed to the expected five fields as in Wilson,John,Salford,XX,[S5]477/S. XX is the Volume Number whereas [S5]477/S is the associated page number. Evan's page appears to be 1846B1-W-0239 in the ANC-02 series, which are not numbered in the same way as the UKD-01 original images. I am fairly sure it is 5477/S but it is Evan's decision what the questionable character is. I think Evan made the right decision. I was aware of the scan when I posted my comment and in fact on a push thought the character in front of the 477/S was neither an S or a 5.
