    3. Please can you translate UAC? I have a transcriber who is on the point of resigning because he gets "Runtime Error 429" on his Windows 7 while I soldier on with Windows Vista and can't advise him. 3. User Account Control   If you go into your Control Panel and then select User Account all will be revealed.   If you would like to ask the volunteer to contact me off list I will try and help with his problem.   I use both Windows Vista and Windows 7 without problems and can mimic the "Runtime Error 429" problem on either my PC or laptop if I don't correctly use UAC.   Allan Raymond --- On Mon, 9/5/11, Richard Oliver <richol@arrakis.es> wrote: From: Richard Oliver <richol@arrakis.es> Subject: Re: Runtime Error 429 To: freebmd-admins@rootsweb.com Date: Monday, 9 May, 2011, 8:35 Please can you translate UAC?   I have a transcriber who is on the point of resigning because he gets "Runtime Error 429" on his Windows 7 while I soldier on with Windows Vista and can't advise him.   Thanks Richard Oliver Abingdon, Oxfordshire richol@arrakis.es ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ted Southcombe" <ted@southcombe1.freeserve.co.uk> To: "FreeBMD Admins" <FreeBMD-Admins-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, May 08, 2011 8:43 PM Subject: Runtime Error 429 >I have two new transcribers who have both recently encountered error >message Runtime Error 429 from Windows 7 when trying to install and run >WinBMD, although quite a number of others seem to have managed OK.  I do >issue an advice note about UAC and rebooting, etc.  I know there is quite a >lot of information in the Admins list archives, but does anybody have any >up-to-date advice I can pass on. > > Ted Southcombe > > > > FreeBMD-Admins mailing list - archive http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/freebmd-admins FreeBMD http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/ ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to FREEBMD-ADMINS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. I may be the transcriber Richard Oliver mentioned. I also received the run-time error 429 message every time I tried to run WinBMD under Windows7, as a standard User. The following procedure is the method I used to overcome this problem: 1/ Download and install WinBMD Version 5 under the Administrator account. 2/ Shut down and restart the PC before opening WinBMD. 3/ Run the program under the Administrator account. 4/ If step 2 is not followed then it seems that the Output file is not saved when you exit the program. (This happened to me with a page of transcriptions.) 5/ Use the program for at least one page of transcribing (and send to BMD) before downloading and installing the update to Version 6.1 There is no way the program would install correctly or run under a User account. Under the User account, It appeared to install correctly (and I tried reinstalling at least 4 times) but every time I tried opening it (from the WinBMD.exe file) the error message would pop up “ Run-time error ‘429’. ActiveX component can’t create object.” I suspect those who have had no problems with WinBMD on a Windows 7 PC (and there must be many) have installed and run the program under the Administrator Account, which is not strictly the correct way to use this operating system – according to Mr Microsoft. Anyway, try this fix and post back on whether successful or not. -----Original Message----- From: Allan Raymond Sent: Monday, May 09, 2011 8:17 PM To: freebmd-admins@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: Runtime Error 429 User Account Control If you go into your Control Panel and then select User Account all will be revealed. 3. I have tried numerous times to install BMD on my Vista laptop, but still get the run-time error 429. I have very linited knowledge on the pc, so do not know if I am doing something wrong. Is anyone else having this problem? I have installed it on my other laptop Windows 7 without any trouble.
