In the last week or so there has been discussion about how to 'filter' emails that come from the FreeBMD-admins mailing list so that they are not missed because of unusual subject lines. In Windows Mail , a fairly commonly-used email package as it often comes free with new PCs, you can create a new 'folder' for emails on a particular subject, or from a particular person, by right-clicking on Inbox or another folder and choosing 'New folder'. You then need to give it a name. To divert incoming emails which meet certain dcriteria to that folder you go to the Tools menu and select Message Rules and then Mail. In the 'Mail Rules' window that opens select 'New ....' and then create a rule. The one I use is Apply this rule after the message arrives Where the To line contains 'freebmd-admins@rootsweb.com' Move it to the FreeBMD Lists new folder If you receive the Digest you can filter on Where the From line contains 'freebmd-admins-request@rootsweb.com' Other email packages will have similar facilities. Thank you to you too Jeff, I don't get anything in the subject line that identifies that is it is BMD :-( so cannot make a rule for it based on the subject line. Jeff didn't suggest that there was anything in the subject line. The overwhelming majority of e-mail software in use today has the ability to filter on things other than the subject line. If you are using yahoo mail, then the following URL may help http://help.yahoo.com/tutorials/mmail/mmail/mm_filter1.html simply add freebmd-admins@rootsweb.com as "recipient contains" in a filter. -----Original Message----- From: freebmd-admins-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:freebmd-admins-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of cb Sent: 25 July 2011 12:03 To: freebmd-admins@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: Filtering FreeBMD-admins mail Thank you to you too Jeff, I don't get anything in the subject line that identifies that is it is BMD :-( so cannot make a rule for it based on the subject line. Since changing computers and going from XP to 7, I have been searching for a way to divert incoming emails to the folders I carried over from Xp. I was pleased to see your suggestion, Jeff. I don't have a Tools button but if I click on Folders and Message Rules, I get a list of options. However, the nearest I have to your "Where the To line contains ......" is "Where the To line contains people". So I'm not sure how to direct mail to the freebmd folder. Dennis, Is the "people" or "contains people" part of that option highlighted in blue? If it is, you should be able to click on it and it will open a new dialogue box where you can enter the FreeBMD information. I haven't tried this on Windows 7, but it works on Outlook Express. Hope this helps! Hi Sue Yes, after another click or two it is highlighted. I've followed its instructions, and although it still talks about 'names', I think it might work! I await my next message!
