    3. That does raise a very interesting, and (now) obvious, question - Tony, if you go to Show Image Tools in the scan window, is "AutoMove Ruler" ticked? 3. I agree. I think it's #THEORY as you'll be transcribing the index as is. I think #COMMENT is mostly for where what you're transcribing differs with what's on the page. 3. Hello Tony, I have watched with interest the responses to your very odd query, when I first installed WinBMD on my computer (HP Laptop running Windows 7 64bit), I backed up the WinBMD.ini file. These following lines form part of the WinBMD.ini file, I believe these lines control how the ruler behaves, Note the entry, "AutoMoveRuler=Y", if this entry has changed, (or been accidentally changed) to "AutoMoveRuler=N", it will no longer move the ruler down as you complete each entry. This is part of my back up ini file. (using Notepad to view the contents), [Ruler] RuleColour=16744576 RuleWidth=3 RuleJump=0 ScrollX1=0 ScrollY1=0 SeeThru=Y AutoMoveRuler=Y This is part of my current ini file, note that the various numeric values have changed but the Automove value is still "Y". [Ruler] RuleColour=16744576 RuleWidth=3 RuleJump=19.7777777777778 ScrollX1=260 ScrollY1=509 SeeThru=Y AutoMoveRuler=Y I think that your idea of re-installing WinBMD is the safest way of getting around this problem as I am sure that the folks at FreeBMD would not recommend that we get too involved in the software which we use to transcode our scans. However, it would be quite "interesting" to know whether this entry had anything to do with your problem. If you are using Windows 7, remember that Windows 7 can appear to hide the actual files in a "Virtual Directory system", making things difficult to understand when things go wrong. Hoping this is of some help, Kindest Regards, Alan On 15/07/2011 08:35, tony mansell wrote: > No that didn't work! > tonym > > -----Original Message----- > From: Barrie [mailto:freebmd@myarcher.net] > Sent: 14 July 2011 08:57 > To: freebmd-admins@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: free bmd data entry - ruler problem > > I suggest that you recalibrate the ruler even though it appears to be > correctly calibrated ("goes down to the tenth record"). > > When the scan is displayed, switch off the ruler if it is displayed > (View/Hide Ruler). 3. Hi Tony Before you reload, if you want to use the same picklists for forenames and districts that you had before, make a copy of the files WinBMD_Name2 WinBMD_Supp_Districts which are in your WinBMD/Files menu. They are both text files. In Vista or Windows 7 you go in from Computer then C: then Program Files then WinBMD and the Files, and then have to click on 'compatibility files' if you want to see them. Paste to store them somewhere else and then once you have uninstalled and reinstalled WinBMD you can copy and paste them back into place. You may also wish to do the same with the whole of your 'Output' folder, if you save your transcription files in C:|Program Files\WinBMD\Output Best wishes Jeff ----- Original Message ----- From: "tony mansell" <anthony.mansell@ntlworld.com> To: <freebmd-admins@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, July 16, 2011 8:36 AM Subject: RE: FREEBMD-ADMINS Digest, Vol 6, Issue 94 > I've jiggled and jumped, changed the size and the colour, thrown the cat > at > it, thrown the computer out of the window, and nothing changes; I suspect > that reloading is the only option now! > > Tonym > > > > _____ > > From: freebmd-admins-bounces@rootsweb.com > [mailto:freebmd-admins-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of > freebmd-admins-request@rootsweb.com > Sent: 16 July 2011 08:01 > To: freebmd-admins@rootsweb.com > Subject: FREEBMD-ADMINS Digest, Vol 6, Issue 94 > > > > > > FreeBMD-Admins mailing list - archive > http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/freebmd-admins > FreeBMD http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/ > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > FREEBMD-ADMINS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without > the quotes in the subject and the body of the message >

    3. On the FreeBMD home page select 'Transcribers' Page' ( red box on extreme right) On Transcribers' Page ( http://www.freebmd.org.uk/vindex.shtml) look under Transcriber Support & Resources See the link for Transcription Software Including SpeedBMD and WinBMD. Click on that link. It takes you to http://www.freebmd.org.uk/addons/ See the Heading WinBMD and the link on 'available from here'. This takes you to http://www.freebmd.org.uk/addons/winbmd/ Now see where it says Install WinBMD Version 5 Make sure that your are the 'administrator' on your computer and 'User Account Control On', and click on the link to download and install WinBMD version 5. Close down your computer and restart before trying to use it. Transcribe a few lines. Save batch and Exit from the File menu as usual No go back to http://www.freebmd.org.uk/addons/winbmd/ and find Upgrade from Version 5 to Version 6.1 Do the upgrade. Close down your computer and restart before trying to use WinBMD. Reopen the file with the few lines you transcribed in it. Follow the instructions in Transcribers' Knowledge Base question 3(f) http://www.freebmd.org.uk/vol_faq.html#3f ( which can be accessed from the FreeBMD Transcribers' Page by finding Transcribers' Knowledge Base in the Transcriber Support & Resources section) to alter 'Define Save Path' to a new folder called WinBMD\Output in your 'Documents' folder. Save your work using the f3 key. Check that the file has now appeared in the appropriate folder. Now you should be ready to go. If you wish to transfer your district files and existing transcriptions you may now do so, as Ian suggested. This should only be done when WinBMD is not in use. Any puzzles or problems, do ask again Happy transcribing Best regards Jeff ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dennis Hawkins" <dennis.hawkins138@btinternet.com> To: <freebmd-admins@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, July 10, 2011 8:45 PM Subject: Re: WinBMD > Ian > I'm sorry to be thick, but where do I find the download? 3. Roy   You should not get a correction request purely to change the case of the letter in a correctly transcribed entry.   This must have been a rare oversight in the process, can you please send me a copy of the correction request OFF list and I'll chase up for you.   Allan Raymond      --- On Thu, 30/6/11, RoyHDavies@aol.com <RoyHDavies@aol.com> wrote: From: RoyHDavies@aol.com <RoyHDavies@aol.com> Subject: FreeBMD To: FreeBMD-Admins-L@rootsweb.com Date: Thursday, 30 June, 2011, 8:08 In the many handwritten entries at the bottom of scans the volume  indicator frequently has its letter shown as a capital, e.g., 9B or 9C instead of its allocated 9b or 9c. Having always transcribed what is 'law' i.e., TWYS, I was  slightly miffed to get a correction to replace a capital letter with a  lower case one. What do we do please?
